Oscar bin Laden

It seems Hollywood is all in a tidder over the movie Paradise Now, a movie that glorifies terrorists. So much so that they've nominated it for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards tomorrow night.

Did any of you actually have the guts to watch the movie, or are you like the radical Christians who say that Brokeback Mountain glorifies homosexuality, and never went to see it to find out that one of the main characters gets slaughtered for being gay?

Never saw it and never plan to. Call me crazy, but I have no interest in seeing a movie where homicide bombers are made to be the good guys.

Right, so in other words, you have no idea what you're actually objecting against is, you're just objecting as a knee-jerk reaction. Gotcha.

Za - a movie that sympathizes with acts of terror. If that's knee-jerk then it's knee-jerk.

Jake - Sorry to ruin your rant, but it was actually Aljazeera's English website where I first heard about this story.

Oh, and if I were a catholic priest who'd heard about Brokeback Mountain first from some gay guys who said it was good, I should automatically respond by not seeing what it actually says?

To quote the American Library Association and the Book Publisher’s Council:
A book should be judged as a book… No society of free men can flourish which draws up lists of writers to whom it will not listen, whatever they may have to say.

The same applies to movies.

The point is moot anyway - TSOTSI won the award.

I thought the discussion was about HOLLYWOOD awarding these movies..not whether or not we SAW them or whether or not we Agree with the Characterization.

No, the discussion was that Hollywood was awarding "evil terrorist supporting" movies. But since nobody here actually saw the movie, the fact that they're "evil and terrorist supporting" is entirely outside the realms of anyone's knowledge.

It's kneejerking crap.
