Wednesday Heroes

This week I'm profiling three brave men who fought and two gave their lives in Vietnam.

In 1975 the War In Vietnam was on it's last leg. The Paris Peace Accords had been signed two years prior effectively ending America's involvment. The U.S. over those two years began pulling service men and equipment out of Vietnam. But the NVA/VC were still taking South Vietnam. On April 23, 1975 100,000 NVA soldiers advance towards Siagon. Six days later the NVC attacked the Tan Son Nhur air base in Saigon, killing two U.S. Marines, LCpl Darwin Lee Judge and Cpl Charles McMahon, who then become the last two American soldiers killed in Vietnam. As a result of this attack, President Ford orders Operation Frequent Wind to begin the evacuation of the last U.S. Marines and as many South Vietnamese as possible. On April 30, 1975 Master Gunnery Sgt(MGySgt). John Valdez steps off the roof of the U.S. Embassy in Sigon and onto a helicopter becoming the last United States service man to leave Vietnam.

These brave men and risk, and lost, their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

If you have a loved who has served or is currently serving in the armed forces, and feel they should be profiled as a Wednesday Hero, I would be proud to do it. Just email me with some info and a photo.
