Update On Geno's

I recently posted about Geno's Steaks putting up a sign that read "This is America - when ordering, speak English". Well, it seems the "you racist bigot" crowd isn't done with them. The Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations has opened an investigation on Geno's. Acting executive director, Rachel Lawton, said
The complaint will say that the sign discourages patronage by non-English speakers because of their national origin and/or ancestry
No one is being refused service. If someone comes up who doesn't speak English, the employees help them with their order. Once again, this is an example of a minority trying to force itself upon the majority. The majority of Americans want immigrants living here to learn English. But no, we have to accommodate our lives to people who can't be bothered to learn it. Bullshit on that. The employees of Geno's are being to soft for me. If I were working there and someone came up and ordered in Spanish, Italian, French, Russian or any other language, I'd refuse them service. Fuck 'em. That goes for other places as well. Wal-Mart, McDonalds, J.C. Penny's, where ever. If learning English is something that's beyond your desire, screw you. And anyone who disagrees with me can kiss my fat ass.

Well, I think you know how I feel about political correctness.

Perhaps if the majority of Americans voted, instead of only a sixth voting on average...

But that's what happens when you have a "representative democracy" with non-compulsory voting. Majority views don't get through.

Screw you. Philadelphia is becoming an inclusive, open-minded city. We embrace diversity and invite everyone to the dinner table, not just English speakers.

I think you'd fit in nicely in France, where this sort of linguistic arrogance is an everyday occurence.

I'm not arguing that every American learn every language to cater to non-speakers or that we change our official language. But I am arguing that we don't have to be assholes about someone's lack of language English proficiency.

Wow...

I'm going to have to side with Chris on this one (but only by a very slim margin).

While they are being ethnocentric, they're also willing to help people who can't speak, or have trouble speaking english so that way they're not excluded.

-Hello

-Yes, this is the Devil.

-The Devil?

-Yes. I was wondering if you could send a few parkas and earmuffs down here?

Well it did snow earlier today, which is rather rare in Canberra during the middle of winter, let alone half way through the first month.

You know, I really could do with a pair of earmuffs.
