The Real Face Of Abortion

WARNING
The following post is extremely graphic. It contains text and images that deal with what's known as "late term" abortion. Abortion that is done after the fifth month of pregnancy. As of right now it is still legal in this country, though many states have passed laws that ban it. President Bush has signed legislation that would end this Nazi-like practice, but as far as I know it has yet to pass. I urge you to proceed with caution. However, should you happen to support the practice of infanticide you should keep reading. If you're "pro-choice" you should look at what exactly it is that you're supporting.

We must change the climate overall from one where abortion providers are vilified and assaulted to one where they are honored and upheld as the heroes they are
-An ACLU Press Release

The following is from the book The ACLU vs America: Exposing The Agenda To Redefine Moral Values. It is the testimony of Pratt Shafer, a nurse from Ohio, to a subcommittee of the U.S. House Of Representatives on March 21, 1996.

In September 1993, [my employer] asked me to accept assignment at the Women's Medical Center, which is operated by Dr. Martin Haskell. I readily accepted the assignment because I was at that time very pro-choice. I had even told my teenage daughters that if one of them ever got pregnant at a young age, I would make them get an abortion. So, because of the strong pro-choice vies that I held at that time, I thought this assignment would be no problem for me.

But I was wrong. I stood at a doctor's side as he performed the partial-birth abortion procedure-and what I saw is branded forever on my mind.

On the first day, we assisted in some first-trimester abortions, which is all I'd expected to be involved in... On the second day, I saw Dr. Haskell do a second-trimester procedure that is called D&E(dilation and evacuation). He used ultrasound to examine the fetus. Then he used forceps to pull apart the baby inside the uterus, bringing it out piece by piece and piece, throwing the pieces in a pan.

On the third day, Dr. Haskell asked me to observe as he performed several of the procedures that are the subject of this hearing. Although I was in that clinic on assignment of the agency, Dr. Haskell was interested in hiring me full time, and I was being given orientation in the entire range of procedures provided as that facility.

The mother was six months pregnant... A doctor told her that the baby had Down's Syndrome and she decided to have an abortion...Dr. Haskell brought the ultrasound in and hooked it up so that he could see the baby. On the ultrasound screen, I could see the heart beating.

Dr. Haskell went in with forceps and grabbed the baby's legs and pulled them down into the birth canal. Then he delivered the baby's body and the arms-everything but the head. The doctor kept that baby's head just inside the uterus.

The baby's little fingers were clasping and unclasping, and his feet were kicking. Then the doctor stuck the scissors through the back of his head, and the baby's arms jerked out in a flinch, a startle reaction, like a baby does when he thinks he might fall.

The doctor opened up the scissors, stuck a high-powered suction tube into the opening and sucked the baby's brains out. Now the baby was completely limp. I was completely unprepared for what I was seeing, I almost threw up as I watched the doctor do these things.

Dr. Haskell delivered that baby's head. He cut the umbilical cord and delivered the placenta. He threw that baby back in the pan, along with the placenta and the instruments he'd used. I saw the baby move in the pan. I asked another nurse and she said it was just "reflexes." I have been a nurse for a long time and I have seen a lot of death-people maimed in auto accidents, gunshot wounds, you name it. I have seen surgical procedures of every sort. But in all my professional years, I had never witnessed anything like this.

The woman wanted to see her baby, so they cleaned up the baby and put it in a blanket and handed the baby to her. She cried the whole time, and she kept saying, "I'm so sorry, please forgive me!" I was crying too. I couldn't take it. That baby boy had the most perfect angelic face I have ever seen.

I sent images to a friend of mine awhile back that was pro-choice. They were horrified, but asked me what was worse: a bloody mass of cells in a clinic, or a woman forced to have a child she doesn't want. Their argument: it's better the child be dead than have a resentful mother.

Good grief. Pretty barbaric if you ask me. But I would wager that 90% of pro-choicers haven't seen graphic images like that.

I think that there is a lot to consider when bringing a life into this world. There are so many unwanted and neglected children that never get to experience a loving upbringing, they just exist.
I do think that an abortion after 8 weeks is wrong but understand that there are medical reasons as to why people go through them.
What upsets me more is that there are a lot of children in this world who dont have families and many people would rather have IVF treatment to concieve than give a child that already exists a chance to a good life. Its a lot like choosing a pedigree dog over a rescue one.

I will never understand how any human being can sleep at night performing this procedure...It's murder, it's sick...just cruel. We can't deicde to be responsible parents if we ar enot prepared tohandle what is dealth to us as aprents. After all, anything can happen to ur children down the road that can cause them to be mentally disabled, like a head injury. Then what? Kill them too? As a moth of 4 children, and have never once considered an abortion. I take what is handed to me and hope I have the strength to deal with it, one day at a time.

This is terrible. My question is: how do people still get themselves in 'unwanted pregnancies' with all the info available and all the contraception methods for use? Abortion should not be for contraception and late-term abortion is murder.

About a year and a half ago, I found out I was pregnant and already eight weeks along. I was only 18 years old and scared. My boyfriend and I had been together for two years, but we're busy with college and couldn't imagine bringing a baby into the mix. I seriously debated whether or not to get an abortion and even scheduled a an appointment to have the procedure done. Thankfully, i never went to that appointment and I now have the most beautifuly 10month old baby boy in the world. I cannot imagine my life without him. Life can go on. I just had to comment after reading this article because of how incredibly sad it makes me. I cannot believe a woman could kill her 6month old fetus. That is cruel and selfish. Those of you who think that is ok are out of your minds. You must be sick in the head. I thank god everyday that he has blessed me with parents and friends to talk me out of what would have been the biggest mistake of my life. PROLIFE FOREVER!
