Why The U.S. Military Is The Best In The World

Meet the M-32 MGL (Multiple Grenade Launcher). If you get a chance, watch the replay of Future Weapons on Discovery to see this thing in action. There may be a video stream on the site, I don't know. Discovery.com takes way too long to load on dial-up.

Gonna have to dispute your post title. The US military is not the best military in the world. China for instance, is better for take and hold objectives. Australia is better for being under seige.

The US military is really good, but not the best; at least not in all areas.

Just out of curiosity; How would you (Za) be able to make a determination such as above concerning China's military and Australia's military seeing as they have not fought any wars in more than 50 years?

Australia doesn't fight wars as such, but they fight IN wars (Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq). They do what they have to, and then 'go about their day', rather than telling everyone how damn good they are at it (Recently when a particular group of Australia soldiers returned home at the end of their mission, neither they, nor military leaders, nor government, were willing to comment. In fact Australian media had to ask the commander of the Dutch troops they were babysitting, to find out about the performance of the Australian troops).

The original post (headed: 'Why US military is the best in the world') was about a particular weapon, surely a military isn't 'the best', simple because they have lots toys.

How can someone claim that one army is 'the best', how can someone measure that? how can someone know that?
... unless we're just simply talking about personal preferences and opinions. In which case, 'the New Zealand military is the best'... (they don't find themselves in foreign countries killing people at behest of out-of-control politicians, who have neither plan nor reason)
