Taxing Miles

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says he wants to consider taxing motorists based on how many miles they drive rather than how much gasoline they burn. I swear, we're looking at a future where farting is taxed by the government. Doesn't England have something like this? I know they have some sort of tax they have to pay that's something like this. I can't think of what it's called.

I don't know about the UK but there's talk that Australia is going to tax by the flush. Really.

"there's talk that Australia is going to tax by the flush"

Not going to happen... it's a fiction that bloggers everywhere but here have picked-up on.
...based on some research looking at a water-usage tax model supposedly inspired by an existing model in Texas. It is a research discussion paper that looks at how to influence people's use of water, not an impending toilet tax... but hey, that's the joy of poor journalism and blogging - you don't have to let the truth get in the way of a sensational headline.

The English road use tax is a 'congestion tax' that is s'posed to reduce excessive traffic in inner city areas.

... actually, I have to 'come clean' after our plot was busted that beacon of journalistic integrity, the weekly world news.

The 'flush tax' was an attempt by Aussie greenies to inflict our backwards communist water on american toilets, and not a research paper misrepresented by an online tabloid.
