SWEET ANGELS
The youth of today give me hope for the future. A 15-year-old British girl with HIV has given birth. What has happened to this world?

What's happened to the world?!

Gee, a 15 year old who's pregnant and has an STD. Hardly surprising. Teenagers breed like rabbits. Have done for decades.

Hmmm, but this girl was impregnated by and older man. So, are we blaming the young female here, who was under age and basically raped (in the legal sense)?

*gasp* girls having sex with someone older than them?!
What is the world coming to!

Please don't insult either of our intelligences by even bothering with the "rape" argument.

Za, dude! I'm usually on your side of the arguments I have read.....what's up? I was just trying to get the point across that it seemed like Chris was giving this particular girl in the article a hard time, when we don't know anything about her circumstances. Yes, if an older person has sex with an underage person (especially an impressionable teen), it is illegal (although, who knows about in the UK?!). And adult man, gave her HIV, got her pregnant, and she's the "bad guy"? Come on!

She's one of the "bad guys". Had she waited until she were married this wouldn't have happened. If you're ready for sex, then you're ready for the possible consequences. I feel no sympathy for her.

Oh Chris - Now I know you have no idea what you are talking about. Until you walk a mile......

Typical guy remark though. Maybe you have had your share of fun with the youngins? Talking young girls into "having some fun" when they don't even know what the hell they are doing? When all they just want is to be liked and accepted by a guy?

So, at what age would this young girl be considered having been "raped" by this old guy? 12? 10 maybe? What the hell, maybe a 5 year old!?

Oh, it's still statutory rape, but if she consented to having sex then I feel no sympathy.

Chris - I guess I don't understand. Are you saying that whatever anyone does, they deserve the worst possible outcome, no matter what? I understand "taking accountability of one's actions", I do. And I do believe we don't have enough of that in this country, true. But for me, it doesn't make sense not to have sympathy for those who make mistakes, or, as in this case, are way too young to really understand or know what they are getting into. For this impressionable girl and many others, she was probably "sweet talked" by an older guy who knew what he wanted. What is consent? If a 15, or 12 year old, or 10 year old girl says while under pressure, "....well, okay guy, I guess if you say I should do it because it'll show that I love you and you'll accept me, then I guess I'll do it for you".......this is considered consent? And I guess in your mind, if a girl doesn't say a clear "NO", then it is consent? So, unchallenged incest is really consent then too, huh? You can't just make judgments on issues where the information is not available and clear. Again, until you walk a mile......don't go throwing rocks. How old are you anyway? You sound very young! Not very worldly.

1. It says very clearly at the top of the blog I was born 1979.

2. How long has it been since you were 15? Because when I was 15, just 11 years ago, I wasn't naive like you're trying to make this girl out to be. If I would have been having sex with an older woman I would have know what I was doing.

And 15 isn't even in the same category as a 12 or 10 year old.

Hey Chris - I guess it's just different for guys versus girls, especially when they are teenagers. Maybe girls are much more prone to "trying to fit in", or wanting people to like them, or being accepted. Young girls are very susceptible to manipulation.

You are right, it might also be a generational thing, because I was 15 about when you were born (OMG, how time flies!! :-( - but I cannot believe that things have changed that much for teens in just that short period of time. All of the 15-ish year olds that I know, are naive. They just don't realize it. I didn't realize how naive I was until I was about 30 or so. As you get older, you realize how naive you were when you were younger! Maybe it hasn't hit you that way yet? It will.......eventually.

"And 15 isn't even in the same category as a 12 or 10 year old." - actually, in different teens, they can be so varied in their development (physical and emotional), that 12 and 15 can be very close, and yes in some cases different categories. The fact is - where do you draw the line of expecting a young person to act like an adult in the choices they make? 13? 15? 18? 21? A young girl at age 17 can easily succumb to incest or other adult sexual manipulation, not able to say "NO" outwardly.

In any case, I still feel like you can't judge other people unless you yourself have experienced their same situation.

My apologies GRR, I was just a bit ticked off. By law it's rape, but since there are no charges being presented on that case then it's most certainly not.

And Chris, you were either very sheltered or permanently at a single age's mindset, since the majority of teens want to have sex.

teens want to have sex?

The hell you say? No shit they want to have sex, but if they're going to have screwed 3 or 4 different people by the time they're 15, and I'm not talking about this girl, then don't expect me to feel sorry for them when they get sick.

Thank God the people who matter from the rest of the world don't have your attitude, otherwise nobody would feel sorry for you when your government screws other nations around.
