I SPOKE TOO SOON
Seems I was a little too quick to kiss Schroeder auf viedersehen. There seems to be a stalemate and no winner has been declared yet. Even though Merkel's Christian Democrats have come out on top there is no clear winner for Chancellor as of yet. Can anyone say Bush/Gore 2000? And they call our election process dumb.

Chris, how much do you actually know on how the German electoral system works?

In Germany it's the legislature that elects the Chancellor, which in some ways makes more sense than the US system.
I mean who's going to be making an informed decision? Someone who's involved in the process or someone who has as much political education as the media is willing to put out?

That's why the US president isn't directly elected either - you vote for the people you want to elect him.

However, the German system doesn't yet use flawed computer voting systems, nor have states renowned for... interesting vote dealings.

Oh, other thing I forgot to add (been held up by uni for the past week or so):
The German system is made up entirely of minor parties, which means that the voters HAVE TO THINK.

You don't get nearly as much of the "What are your political views?" "Oh, I'm a Republican" crap.
