SPEECH, SPEECH
Did anyone watch W last night? I didn't see the entire speech, but what I saw I really liked. He admitted mistakes were make on his end. And recently Gov. Blanco did the same. Now if only Nagin would admit he helped kill over 400 people. But anyway, points include

- GO Zones, or Gulf Opportunity Zone, would provide tax relief and loans for businesses in the area
- Worker recovery accounts to help those who have lost their jobs find another
- Urban homesteading initiative would provide building sites to low-income citizens free of charge on the condition that they build on the lot with either a mortgage or help from an organization such as Habitat for Humanity.

There's point after point I could list, but you can read them for yourself. We keep hearing that Bush is racist, that he doesn't care about Black people, yet he's given more federal help than Clinton ever did. 15% of the U.S. budget goes to helping poor Blacks. What the Dems don't like is that Bush is talking about them helping themselves rather than the Government handing them everything. The Left doesn't like that because if they start to become self-sufficient they loose their iron-clad grasp they have on them.

Say what you will about Bush, but no president has ever been tried like this one. A massive terrorist attack in his first term and a huge natural disaster in his second, and each time he's managed to rise up and show what he's really made of.

'Cause the world wars weren't a trial at all. Sometimes you surprise me Chris.

Here's something for you to think on. Who would have been elected last year if 9/11 didn't happen? And why?

Who knows? It's sort of a unanswerable question. Who knows what Bush would have been doing if we weren't attacked. Perhaps the economy wouldn't have dropped so bad as a result. Maybe we would have been attacked on 5/20/2004, who knows. Unless we can find a way back machine, we'll never know.

No, it's really not an unanswerable question.
Imagine if there had been no major attacks in Bush's first term. Imagine that there was no war on terror.

Now what exactly did Bush do?

Even the right-wingers thought Bush wasn't amounting to much of a president prior to 9/11. He did jack all. He spent more than half of his tenure on holidays.

The only reason Bush has his support base now is because he's a "war president", which is exactly what Gore would have been if he'd been elected.
