Terrorism & Political Correctness In The 21st Century

I wanted to talk a little about this terror plot in England. I have to say, a number of things about this scares the hell out of me.

1. They were allegedly homegrown. Which means they were born and raised in the democratic country of England. They weren't from Afghanistan or Iran. They were raised, most likely, middle-class. Probably didn't have many worries in life.

2. They were allegedly all Muslim and of Arab decent. We'll get to this below.

3. The method of which they were going to blow these planes up. Liquid chemicals. No one expected something this. A bomb that could be hidden in a bottle of pop and detonated with a cell phone or a watch? Scares the shit out of me.

We're told that it's wrong to look at the color of someone's skin or their religious background or their heritage and judge them on it. Well if you'll have a look over past 30 years, who has carried out the majority of terroristic attacks across the world? Arab men of Muslim faith. Now, I admit, I don't like looking at an Arab man and wonder if he might have some kind of weapon on him but I'm beginning to. Is it wrong? Yes. But that's the environment we live in today. That Mr. Hassan down the road may seem to be the nicest man in the world, but maybe, just maybe, he's the next Mohammed Atta. What to do about it? I honestly don't know. We can't go around acting like FDR rounding up Arabs and throwing them in "internment camps" but at the same time we can't continue to bury our heads in the sand and pretend nothings wrong. It's a "damned if we do and damned if we don't" situation.

Racial profiling is needed in this country to save it from terrorists. You don't see Canadians or Mexicans hijacking planes or attempting to blow them up. It's 100% Muslim males, usually of Middle Eastern descent.

I am on the government watch list for my maiden name. Good. I'm glad they are keeping tabs on people with Arabic last names.

"Color-blindness" doesn't exist. We are all people, yes, with equal rights. But we know our enemy and part of our nation wants us to ignore the warning signs so we can be "at peace" with everyone.

Also, I've been hearing that some of the would-be bombers had Westernized names before they converted to Islam. I wonder if they were of Middle Eastern descent at all?

Furthermore, this incident completely debunks the Left's theory that rich countries oppress poor countries = terrorists. Like you mention, the terrorists were from Middle Class backgrounds probably with great access to education and health care. They had opportunities, yet they chose to become murderers.

I see your point. But I'm not stopping at pre-judging Arab Muslims. I'm also going to pre-judge every right-wing Christian I meet. I'm sure you are aware that the second most deadly terrorist attack ever committed on U.S. soil was committed by a self-described right wing Christian (Timothy McVeigh). Also, the terrorist acts against abortion practitioners and clinics were commited by other self-described right wing Christians. They are one crazy, violent group, and it's just human nature that I am now wary of all of them.

Thanks for your time.

Anon:

Timothy McVeigh is a wacko, and he is hardly a Christian. A real Christian understands that they are commanded to not kill or harm others. Whether he professes Christianity or not, he is certainly not one. His actions speak louder than his nonsensical words.

Every race, religion and creed has its fringe wackos (look at the Democratic Party), but that doesn't taint the entire group except in the case of Islam, where the terrorists are simply following Allah's commands to the general Muslim populace.

McVeigh was a psycho that went completely outside the teachings of the Bible, as well the other abortion clinic bombers. Radical Islam is simply following the mainstream teaching of holy war.

This incident completely debunks the Right's theory that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are protecting us against terrorists. Its only making it easier for terrorists to recruit new members. The devastating daily death tolls in Iraq surely sway muslims towards the side al-Qaeda. People are now realizing that they don't 'Hate us for our Freedom' They hate us for our foreign policy.

There are millions and millions of Muslims who would say terrorists are fringe wackos and not true muslims. The abortion clinic bomber would tell you he is merely following the Christian teaching to protect innocent life.

This is the problem with religious thinking in general. You may think an abortion clinic bomber is a wacko and not a "true Christian." The abortion clinic bomber thinks he is doing God's work and that you are the one who is not a "true Christian." You can argue about who is right, but you will get nowhere, because religious thinking is not rational thinking.

Look, I hate Islamic Facsism almost as much as Dick Cheney does. But I refuse to give a pass to our own Christian Fascists. Personally, I'd be happy to see both the Bible and the Koran disappear, and with it arational religious thinking. But I'm still really uncomfortable generalizing about either Christians or Muslims, since there are hundreds of millions of practitioners of both religions, and a relatively small number of terrorists from either.

McVeigh was aliegned with the "Christian Identity" movement.
He went from an anti-government conspiracy theory to militant neo-Nazi ideology.

You need to learn what "Christian" really is and the difference between them and the False Christian, false prophet, apostate church, etc.

This is the age of information, technology and the internet, there's no excuse for being as ignorant as you are displaying here.
