When A Hero Lets You Down

We've all had heroes in our lives. Whether they're family, an actor or what ever, we've all had someone that we've looked up to and wanted to be like. But what happens when that hero lets you down? When they fall from grace so to speak. We put them up on a pedestal and maybe modeled our lives off of them and then one day it all comes crashing down. How do we deal with that? That's what recently happened to me. Growing up I looked up to this person. A huge smile would appear on my face every time I saw this person. This person was bigger than life and represented everything I wanted to be and felt was good. But recently this person has been having some trouble and the way they've handled has caused me to take another look how I view them. And I don't like what I see. The way this person has conducted their self has been deplorable and would make that little boy who idolized this person all those years ago cry.

It's hard when someone we've admired and put on a pedestal shows us they're only human. You can know that intellectually...but in your heart...you want them...to be more. The proverbial "wise man" once told me..."take the best and leave the rest". Sometimes, that's all we can do.
