Help Me Out Here
Polly Want A PulloutI can't quite figure this one out. Nancy Pelosi today:
"I'm endorsing what Mr. Murtha is saying, which is that the status quo is not working and that we need to have a plan that makes us safer and our military stronger and makes Iraq more stable"
Murtha's plan is to pull out in six months. How is turning tail and leaving before Iraqis are able to defend their own country going to make us safer and them more stable? I would really love for some weak-kneed, Left-wing, anti-freedom nut to explain this to me. I would ask Murtha and Pelosi but they're too busy parroting the DNC talking points to actually answer a question.

More From Iraq, Two
Here's some more from Iraq, direct from the troops, that you won't hear Big Media talk about. Thanks Len.
"Yet as perceptions about Iraq have neared a tipping point in Congress, some soldiers and marines worry that their own stories are being lost in the cacophony of terror and fear"
Not here they're not.
More From Iraq
Here's some more from Iraq from Sen. Joseph Lieberman. You have to register to read it but it's free and worth it. Here are some highlights.

"I have just returned from my fourth trip to Iraq in the past 17 months and can report real progress there. More work needs to be done, of course, but the Iraqi people are in reach of a watershed transformation from the primitive, killing tyranny of Saddam to modern, self-governing, self-securing nationhood--unless the great American military that has given them and us this unexpected opportunity is prematurely withdrawn.

Progress is visible and practical. In the Kurdish North, there is continuing security and growing prosperity. The primarily Shiite South remains largely free of terrorism, receives much more electric power and other public services than it did under Saddam, and is experiencing greater economic activity"

"It is a war between 27 million and 10,000; 27 million Iraqis who want to live lives of freedom, opportunity and prosperity and roughly 10,000 terrorists who are either Saddam revanchists, Iraqi Islamic extremists or al Qaeda foreign fighters who know their wretched causes will be set back if Iraq becomes free and modern"

"The leaders of Iraq's duly elected government understand this, and they asked me for reassurance about America's commitment. The question is whether the American people and enough of their representatives in Congress from both parties understand this. I am disappointed by Democrats who are more focused on how President Bush took America into the war in Iraq almost three years ago, and by Republicans who are more worried about whether the war will bring them down in next November's elections, than they are concerned about how we continue the progress in Iraq in the months and years ahead"
Agree 100%.

Now here's something you wouldn't know if you listened to CNN, The L.A. Times, The NY Times and the likes.
"Here is an ironic finding I brought back from Iraq. While U.S. public opinion polls show serious declines in support for the war and increasing pessimism about how it will end, polls conducted by Iraqis for Iraqi universities show increasing optimism. Two-thirds say they are better off than they were under Saddam, and a resounding 82% are confident their lives in Iraq will be better a year from now than they are today. What a colossal mistake it would be for America's bipartisan political leadership to choose this moment in history to lose its will and, in the famous phrase, to seize defeat from the jaws of the coming victory"

"Does America have a good plan for doing this, a strategy for victory in Iraq? Yes we do. And it is important to make it clear to the American people that the plan has not remained stubbornly still but has changed over the years. Mistakes, some of them big, were made after Saddam was removed, and no one who supports the war should hesitate to admit that; but we have learned from those mistakes and, in characteristic American fashion, from what has worked and not worked on the ground. The administration's recent use of the banner "clear, hold and build" accurately describes the strategy as I saw it being implemented last week"

Some more news we aren't getting from BM.
"The Sixth Infantry Division of the Iraqi Security Forces now controls and polices more than one-third of Baghdad on its own. Coalition and Iraqi forces have together cleared the previously terrorist-controlled cities of Fallujah, Mosul and Tal Afar, and most of the border with Syria. Those areas are now being "held" secure by the Iraqi military themselves. Iraqi and coalition forces are jointly carrying out a mission to clear Ramadi, now the most dangerous city in Al-Anbar province at the west end of the Sunni Triangle.

Nationwide, American military leaders estimate that about one-third of the approximately 100,000 members of the Iraqi military are able to "lead the fight" themselves with logistical support from the U.S., and that that number should double by next year. If that happens, American military forces could begin a drawdown in numbers proportional to the increasing self-sufficiency of the Iraqi forces in 2006. If all goes well, I believe we can have a much smaller American military presence there by the end of 2006 or in 2007, but it is also likely that our presence will need to be significant in Iraq or nearby for years to come"

"I cannot say enough about the U.S. Army and Marines who are carrying most of the fight for us in Iraq. They are courageous, smart, effective, innovative, very honorable and very proud. After a Thanksgiving meal with a great group of Marines at Camp Fallujah in western Iraq, I asked their commander whether the morale of his troops had been hurt by the growing public dissent in America over the war in Iraq. His answer was insightful, instructive and inspirational: "I would guess that if the opposition and division at home go on a lot longer and get a lot deeper it might have some effect, but, Senator, my Marines are motivated by their devotion to each other and the cause, not by political debates.""

The Left continue day in and day out to bash the war, an in effect, bash the troops. The undermined their victories and progress and they something think that by doing this they're actually supporting them. And I have to say, I commend Sen. Lieberman. He's one of the few that hasn't put political gain ahead of everything. He supported going into Iraq and still today continues to support the war. Unlike the other Dems who voted for the war he hasn't tucked tail and pulled a 180. He hasn't taken the blame off himself for his vote and put it all on Bush. Just one question though. How in the hell did this guy get mixed up with that nutsack Al Gore?
Sick Beyond Anything
Want to read something that'll really piss you off? That is if you have a heart. Read this.
" Now 70, Harrison estimates he's terminated at least 20,000 pregnancies"

" He calls himself an 'abortionist' and says, 'I am destroying life.'
But he also feels he's giving life: He calls his patients 'born again.'"

"Harrison glances at an ultrasound screen frozen with an image of the fetus taken moments before. Against the fuzzy black-and-white screen, he sees the curve of a head, the bend of an elbow, the ball of a fist.

'You may feel some cramping while we suction everything out,' Harrison tells the patient.

When he's done, Harrison performs another ultrasound. The screen this time is blank but for the contours of the uterus. 'We've gotten everything out of there,' he says.

"A high school volleyball player says she doesn't want to give up her body for nine months. 'I realize just from the first three months how it changes everything,' she says"

"Kim, a single mother of three, says she couldn't bear to give away a child and have to wonder every day if he were loved. Ending the pregnancy seemed easier, she says - as long as she doesn't let herself think about 'what could have been'"
She can't bare giving this baby a shot at life wondering if it were loved yet she's fine with killing it, as long as she doesn't let herself think about it later on.

"Yours is more like a chicken yolk"

" She regrets having to pay $750 for the abortion"

How any sane, rational person can support abortion is beyond me, but I guess sane and rational are the operative words. They call the death penalty cruel and barbaric, yet are find and dandy with this. Cold, heartless monsters.

Preach It Brother Man
Gee, I wonder why Big Media isn't reporting this? Oh, that's right, it's the truth. An alien concept to them. I learned some things by reading this.
"The progress of democracy and reconstruction has occurred faster in Iraq than it did in Germany 60 years ago, even though we have far fewer troops in the Middle East than we had in Germany after Hitler was defeated."

And if you were to listen to BM you wouldn't know this
"Virtually every American soldier who writes home or comes back to visit his family tells the same story: We have won, Iraqis have won, and life in most of Iraq goes on without violence and with obvious affection between the Iraqi people and our troops. These soldiers have not just restored order in most places, they have built schools, aided businesses, distributed aid and made friends"

Or this
"To take their places, Iraq has trained, with American and NATO assistance, tens of thousands of new troops and police officers. In the last election, there were more Iraqi soldiers than American ones guarding the polling places."

Greta, you should try and get your husband to get a post up about what's really going on in Iraq. No one knows better than someone who was actually there.

New Look
I was going to put this up Thursday, but Christmas season is in full swing so I went ahead and did it now. The past two years I've done the Christmas theme in sort of jolly feel. Neon and yellows, greens, blues and such. I also went with the more PC Happy Holidays more than I did this year. But I wanted something else this time. I'm a fan of the "old world" Christmas look. Maroons, golds and dark greens. So that's what I went with. Also, no Happy Hanukkah or Kwanza this year. It's sort of in protest to the likes of the ACLU, but also because it didn't fit with the color scheme. Hope you like it. If not, too bad. Merry Christmas.
Review Time
Christmas With The Kranks
Christmas With The KranksStaring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis. This movie wasn't very good. Not bad, just not good. Based on a John Grisham book, it's supposed to be a comedy yet I only laughed once or twice. The only good thing about it was Cheech Marin and Jake Busey, but that's not saying much. Dan Aykroyd wasn't a bit funny, which was a little surprising. The plot: a couple decide to skip Christmas and the whole town can't believe it. As if everyone on the planet celebrates it. Rent it if you just have to see it, but never buy it. Rated PG. Nothing bad, but I guess it's because we see Tim Allen in a speedo. Not pretty.2 Stars

War Of The Worlds
War Of The WorldsStaring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning. This movie totally makes up for Christmas With The Kranks. Freakin' awesome. From the first lighting storm it's non stop action. Then we have the tripods. These things are actually scary. And the sound they make. A demented fog horn is the best I can describe it. The plot: aliens attack Earth and try to inhabit it. But Spielberg doesn't make them Martians in this one. I want so much to give this a perfect score, but I can't for two reasons.

1) Dakota Fanning screams through the whole thing. Look, I understand that you're being attacked by aliens but calm down a little. Damn.

2) Tim Robbins is in it. You know, I could have lived with giving a perfect score if it had been just her screaming but I had to suffer this idiot. The good news is it's only like 15 minutes, he gives his little anti-war rant and Tom Cruise proceeds to beat the shit out of him and kill him. Happy, happy, joy, joy.

But you'll love this movie. Rated PG-13. Quite a bit of cursing and some images may not be for little kids. Like people getting turned into dust and when they start turning people into fertilizer. Very cool.4 Stars
Hasta La Vista, Sanity
This would be the biggest mistake of his life. Even bigger than Batman & Robin. This Stanley "Tookie" Williams is responsible for how many deaths over the years? I'm not sure we'll ever know, and yet Schwarzenegger is actually considering granting him clemency. He does this and I lose all respect for him that I have and my copy of T3 on DVD goes in the microwave. But hell, if Snoop Dogg says he should do it...

Merry Almost Christmas
Now the official countdown begins. Only one month left to go. I got the outside lights up, look below, and today I'll going to be putting up the inside lights. I'll try to get a picture of those as well. I also have a couple of images below that I made for the Christmas look I'll be putting up on Thursday but they didn't quite work out. They make good desktop wallpaper. Feel free to use them or to link to them should any of your readers want to use them. Also, I hope everyone had a nice Injun Death Day yesterday. I may be trying to lose weight, but when it comes to my mothers turkey tetrazzini I lose all control. Best damn stuff on the planet. I'll share the recipe come Christmas time.

Victim
Playing Politics
I just wanted to make a quick post about what's been happening over the last few weeks. With Congressman Murtha turning on the troops which led to the vote about pulling them out. I think this whole situation is sad. From Murtha to the vote. There's something people are forgetting here. The troops themselves. People , both Left and Right, are playing politics with their lives. While I thought the vote was kind of amusing at first, the more I think about it the more I don't like it. A publicity stunt done at the expense of those brave men and women. But don't smile just yet you Lefties. I think what your side's doing is just as bad. We hear Senators and Congressmen rambling on as if they know what the troops actually want. They talk to the one or two who disagree with the war and spin it to make it seem as if there's some mass revolt going on. There's not. If they would actually listen to what they're saying, the vast majority who are fighting in Iraq think it's a bad idea to even be talking about a pullout right now. They know better than the "experts" back home whether the Iraqis are able to handle things on their own yet.

And it seem the Left is right after all. Iraq is the new Vietnam. We have our politicians turning on the troops, we have the media turning on the troops and as a result we have a growing number of Americans turning on the troops*. If you watch any of these anti-freedom rallies around the world you'll see more and more people celebrating the fact that soldiers are dying over there. And just like Vietnam, we have people burying their heads in the sand and refusing to even consider what would happen should we pull out. Mass murder and genocide. Just like Vietnam.

*By this I don't mean spitting on them and calling them baby killers. When I talk about turning on the troops I mean the waning support for the war. Anyone who says they support the troops but not the war is a liar. You either support both or neither.
Fallen Hero
WOODROW
PFC Woodrow "Woody" Charles Cronkrite
United States Marine Corps
2nd Squad, 2nd Platoon, India Company, 3rd Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment
September 6, 1967 near Con Thien, Vietnam

From his friend, Mike Rummel

"I was a transfer student from Pennsylvania in the Fall of 1960 when I first attended 8th grade at Suitland Junior High School, Suitland, Maryland. I knew no one except a cousin, a year younger.

I met teachers and students through the normal course of the school year. Woody learned of me from a mutual teacher. He approached me, befriended me, helped me feel welcomed, and became an unofficial sponsor of sorts for the remainder of the year.

We were never more than casual friends, but that simple act of kindness stayed with me through the years. When I learned of his death, I was shocked and saddened. Ever since, my mind has returned often to our first meeting and our last class together in Mr. Jack's Senior English at Suitland Senior High School.

Woody wanted to be a writer. His writings were destroyed in a fit of anger at his death, an understandable, but regrettable act. Over the years, Woody, for me, has come to symbolize the loss of so many promising youth from our generation, who gave their lives in service to their country. I am reminded of the 19 May, 1991, "Funky Winkerbean" cartoon strip, wherein the following monologue takes place as two alumni look at class pictures on the wall of their alma mater:

'I was just thinking about a couple of kids from our school who
went over to Vietnam and never made it back.

'I remember one in particular who was a pretty talented artist with
a promising career in front of him ...

'and I began to wonder how many paintings will never be seen,
songs will never be heard, and books will never be read ...

because of wars yet to come ...'"

They Don't Walk The Line
Sure, they walk the walk but when it comes time to talk the talk the Left shows their true colors. For two years they've been bitching and moaning about how going into Iraq was wrong. How we should bring the troops home. How they're dying for a lie. And when they finally get the chance to vote on it, they back down. The vote was 403-3 against a pullout. Only three Dems stood their ground. I actually commend them for that. They stood by their convictions while the rest tucked their tails between their legs and voted in a vein attempt to show that they actually support the troops. Too bad their own words show the truth. Here's something that may be of interest. In May of this year the House held a vote for an Iraq pullout. It failed 300-128. And that vote was sponsored by whom? Democrats. Today's vote was "A disgrace. The rankest of politics and the absence of any sense of shame" but the May vote was "a great day".

The Phrase That Pays
It's easy to support something when things are going well. It's shows real courage to continue to support it when things are going bad.
