Wednesday Hero

Wednesday Hero was started to put a spotlight on the men and women of the United States military and the bravery their show day in and day out. But on a few occasions a service members of an allied nation has been profiled. Such is the case this week.

Despite being shot twice during an ambush in Afghanistan, an SAS (Special Air Service) soldier from Australia lashed himself to the front of his patrol vehicle so he wouldn't be left behind if he passed out from loss of blood and kept on fighting.

The Digger is expected to be recommended for a high level bravery award.

Suffering from serious upper body wounds, the soldier struggled on to the front of his SAS long range patrol vehicle (LRPV) and, under heavy fire, used a rope to attach himself firmly between the vehicle's bull bar and radiator.

Once he was secured, and there was no chance that he would fall off if he fainted, he picked up his rifle and resumed firing at the enemy during a two-hour fighting withdrawal.

SAS troops and their special forces comrades from the Commando Regiment are well aware of the slow and painful death that awaits them if they are captured by the Taliban.

The Digger, who cannot be identified, faded in and out of consciousness, emptying several magazines as volleys of enemy rounds and rocket propelled grenades, rained down around him.

He was finally evacuated from the battle field at high speed still lashed to the front of the LRPV.

A source told The Courier-Mail the Digger was now "up and about" and would recover fully from his serious gunshot wounds. His heroic deeds will be recognised when he is recommended for a high level bravery award.

Several others engaged in the do-or-die battle on September 2 are also in line for top honours.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

If Obama does take office, it's likely the Fairness Doctrine will pass, effectively silencing conservative programming on radio and tv. That's how the communists keep power - by taking power and then silencing the opposition. So the stage is set in the US right now for this to happen next month.

The Obama campaign tells a media outlet in Florida, quote, "This cancellation is non-negotiable, and further opportunities for your station to interview with this campaign are unlikely, at best for the duration of the remaining days until the election". Why? Because they asked some question to Sen. Biden that they didn't like.

McCain Supporters Attacked

The home of a Central Florida Republican headquarters manager was shot up and damaged over his support of Sen. John McCain, the man told police.

But this is the worst one. A 20-year-old woman in Texas was robbed, assaulted and had her face mutilated because of her support for John McCain.

United Socialist States of America

I didn't write this. I just copied from a friend. Hopefully she won't mind me posting it.

So go back in time and look at China approximately 60 years ago, or Russia in the early 20th century. As a matter of fact, go read any history book about a nation that is currently communist, and you'll see some parallels. The frightening thing is that those parallels will be drawn between the United States right now, and those countries back then before they turned Red.

Some commonalities on nations about to go Socialist/Communist:

1. Economic turmoil - most people do not have a basic understanding of market economics, nor of supply and demand. Most people do not realize that full employment in a market economy is 95% (which makes our current unemployment rate of around 7% not that big of a deal in the long run). Therefore, people start panicking and demanding that the government "do something." During this time of panic and anxiety over economic distress, the socialists and communists are most effective at spreading their message of "hope," "peace," and "jobs," to the mainstream.

2. Political turmoil - George Bush got us into a sticky situation with Iraq and Afghanistan (never mind that the same liberals denouncing him today as some evil dictator are the same ones who actually voted to go to war all those years ago). In each nation about to fall socialist/communist will have experienced some sort of political upheaval before the drastic overcorrection to the left. Whether it's a large-scale scandal or a series of unsuccessful wars, these are factors that allow the communist party's false promises to be absorbed more readily by regular Americans.

3. Class hostility - whether it's by the mainstream media or pamphlets discreetly passed around college campuses, the communist's party main goal is to incite hatreds towards the haves by the have-nots. Nevermind that the haves worked to be where they are at. I don't want Paris Hilton's money, even though she is a dolt and probably hasn't done a productive thing in her 27 years of life. It's her money and she should keep it. Once the illiterate/ignorant lower classes/mainstream masses become enraged at the communists' prodding at the perceived "unfairness" of the current situation, the stage is set for a communist or socialist takeover.

Sgt. Carlton Clark graduated from South Royalton High School in 2002. While in high school, he was co-captain of his soccer team and a member of the track and field and basketball teams. He graduated from basic combat training and advanced individual training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. in 2002 and was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. as a combat engineer. He was air assault qualified and deployed during the initial wave of Operation Iraqi Freedom for one year. He was subsequently assigned to West Point to train cadets. He re-enlisted and was deployed for a second tour of duty in Iraq. He earned a Purple Heart, an Army Commendation Medal with Valor, a Bronze Star Medal and was posthumously awarded a second Purple Heart.

Sgt. Clark was killed in action when an IED detonated near his Humvee while conducting combat operations in Baghdad. Also killed in the attack were Staff Sgt. Stephen A. Seale and Cpl. Jose Zamora.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

Fear The Future

Obama, Biden, Reid and Pelosi. The Wall Street Journal has a piece every American should read. It talks about what we'll be getting with a government controlled by these four people. I think the one thing they talk about that scares me the most is the "Fairness Doctrine". This will pass. And then how long will it be before we could see something similar for cable news networks? We all know how much Liberals hate Fox News. And if they can find a way to silence them, they're going to take it. Sound kinda far fetched? Well, the whole "Fairness Doctrine" is a far fetched idea to begin with but it was once law and will be again. November 4, 2008 will mark the day that America died.

12-Year-Old Called Racist Because Of McCain/Palin Shirt

She's only 12 years old but Ashleigh Jones is feeling the heat of this election year.

That's because the seventh grader at New Smyrna Beach Middle School was called a racist by classmates for wearing a pro-Sarah Palin t-shirt

Now, I don't know if this was a setup or not. Meaning, maybe she wore the shirt hoping something like this would happen. I don't know, but the fact that it did happen really shows how far we've fallen as a society. Just because you support a candidate, who's white, over one, who's black, you're seen as a racist by some is scary. It's almost as if some see it as our obligation to support and vote Obama into power next month and if you don't it's because you hate black people. But this is nothing new. Republicans have been called things like racist or Nazi or neo-con for years. We're use to it. We've come to expect it. But this shows it's starting earlier. 12-year-old kids. Something tells me some of them are getting this from their parents.

Last night at the debate, Obama talked about an incident at a McCain/Palin campaign rally in which he claims someone yelled "Kill Him" when his name was mentioned. Well, as it turns out, it might not have happened.

The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton said allegations that someone yelled “kill him” when presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s name was mentioned during Tuesday’s Sarah Palin rally are unfounded....

Agent Bill Slavoski said he was in the audience, along with an undisclosed number of additional secret service agents and other law enforcement officers and not one heard the comment.

But we have seen the "Sarah Palin Is A C*NT" shirt. So, yes, there is hate speech out there.

Misty Hiett, the widow of Sgt. Anton Hiett, said in an interview that he, Sgt. Hiett, asked to transfer to the 391st Engineering Battalion when it looked like his reserve unit would not be deployed.

Sgt. Hiett was a truck driver who joined the military right out of high school because he "wanted to go help out" during the current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. After his transfer to the 391st, he was deployed to Afghanistan on April 22, 2005.

On March 12, 2006, Sgt. Hiett, and three fellow soldiers from the 391st, Staff Sgt. Joe Ray; Spc. Joshua Hill and Sgt. Kevin Akins, were killed when an IED detonated near their Humvee during combat operations west of Asadabad, Afghanistan. He left behind his wife and their then 2(now 4)-year-old daughter Kyra.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

Gas Prices

I don't know what they are in other parts of the country, but around here gas is down to $2.75/gallon and $2.85/gallon for no ethanol. That's over a dollar drop in, what, 3-4 months. When it was around $4/gallon you couldn't watch a newscast without them mentioning it every 5 minutes. And now? Bush seemed to get the lion's share of the blame for $4 gas. Will he get the credit for $2.75 gas?

John McCain & Big Government

On September 5 I wrote the following

I will support John McCain and I will vote for him come November. And I will do so without a doubt in my mind that he is the right man and is exactly what this country needs.

Well, how things can change within the span of a month. First McCain rode the government bailout for all it was worth thinking it would help him. Surprise, surprise it didn't. The American people didn't want that crap. Now he wants the government to buy up bad mortgages. McCain has been the one railing against big government and government spending and now he's advocating giving government more power. What the hell? As it stands right now, I'm back to sitting this election out.

And as for the debate the other night. Again, I didn't watch it but from what I heard McCain was, once again, too soft. Why he won't go for the kill is beyond me. Yeah, we get that Obama wants to raise taxes. Give us details. When he looses this election, we lose America with Obama in the White House.

The father of Cpl. Lance Thompson said his son would be proud knowing he fought and died to help Iraqis vote in an election.

Cpl. Lance Thompson died in during fighting in Ramadi, Iraq by a truck bomb. His father, Greg Thompson, said his son sent him a letter in September of '04 which said, "Freedom is not free. It requires sacrifice."

Greg Thompson said the millions turning out to vote in Iraq was "fantastic" and said it was a "momentous day in the Middle East."

"Are you asking me was it worth Lance losing his life?" he asked a reporter. "Being the gung-ho Marine that he was, he would say yes. So I'll say yes. That is a tough, bitter pill to swallow. It hurts. God, I didn't want to give up my son."

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

Good Idea Or Bad?

Starting next year, Ford Motor will roll out a feature on many 2010 models that can limit teen drivers to 80 mph, using a computer chip in the key.

Parents also have the option of programming the teen's key to limit the audio system's volume, and to sound continuous alerts if the driver doesn't wear a seat belt.

Personally, I think this is a good idea. Some people just become morons when they get behind the wheel. Especially some kids. They get their license and they think they know everything. And I like the limit on the volume of the radio. I can't tell you how many times cars come by here with their stereos pounding. You don't need it that high in a car.

Story Is Up

I know I said Monday, but I'm still having trouble with my internet connection and I have no idea when it'll work and when it won't so I figured I'd better get it up while I can. Once again, as I'm no English major or a writer, so it's not very good. But I like it. Anyway, here it is.

Short Story

A few years ago I had a blog that I started that was just for random junk. Endorsements, album and movie reviews and the like. One or two of my long time readers may or may not remember it. I also posted two short stories that I'd written. In the coming days I'm going to post one of those stories for people to read. I'm not sure why. It's not that well written, I'm no English major. Hell, I barely passed English in school, but I feel it's a good story none the less. It's written in journal form and so there is a font that I like that I feel makes the story better. You can download it here. It's free and virus free. I uploaded it myself. It's a True Type font, not sure if those work with Apple or not. All I have to do is do some proof reading, correct some of the continuity mistakes and think of a title.

UPDATE
Some things I forgot to mention. 1) it's a cheesy Vampire story, 2) there is some language that some might not be fans of and 3) I called it a short story but it's more like a blip of a story. If it were published it would be more like a pamphlet than anything. It's all ready to be posted, and it will be come Monday. I've even been so pretentious at to have made a cover image for it as if it were an actual book. That was just done on a whim.

SSGT Renee A. Deville was an Army Reservist who deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 401st Civil Affairs Battalion from Webster, N.Y. She arrived at Walter Reed August 10, 2006, after being injured in a mortar attack.

While at Walter Reed, Deville was assigned to Chosen Battery, Warrior Transition Brigade, and was among three graduates of the Army's first Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course Stand Alone Common Core offered to Warriors in Transition.

Deville, who successfully completed every aspect of the course from a wheelchair, was lauded by SGT Major of the Army Kenneth O. Preston as exemplifying the Army's 'Warrior Ethos', at the graduation ceremony for the course on March 28, 2008.

Deville was also the impetus for a new playground being built behind the Mologne House at Walter Reed in 2007.

An October 2007 Washington Post article about the opening of the playground says that SSGT Deville's mention of her children's limited recreational options to Col. Bruce Haselden, the garrison commander, helped set in motion the playground project.

Staff Sgt. Renee Antoinette Deville died September 1, 2008 in her room at the Mologne House at Walter Reed. She was 44.

She is survived by her husband and 4 children, her mother, a brother, and two sisters.

SSGT Deville was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery on September 19, 2008.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
