Joe Wilson Speaks For Me

Someone in Congress had to stand up to Obama and call him out. And my new hero, S.C. Rep. Joe Wilson, did just that. At yesterday's address to Congress by President Obama, as he was lying through his teeth about his government run health care plan not covering illegals Rep. Wilson shouted "You Lie" to the president. But then he went and chickened out and apologized. Why? He was just speaking for the American public. Doing the very thing we wish we could do. Damn this air of cowardice that permeates Washington. If you believe the president is lying, stand up and let it be know and don't bow under pressure from anyone.

And did anyone else notice the hypocrisy when Obama was talking about special interest?

Not to mention that Obama had just called half of America liars in the speech.

No, I do not believe the President is lying. What is your evidence? The House bill (the only bill to be formally introduced in its entirety) specifically says that no federal money would be spent on giving illegal immigrants health coverage:

"H.R. 3200: Sec 246 — NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS

Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States."

Also, under current law, those in the country illegally don’t qualify for federal health programs.

It’s sad that you champion calling the President of the United States a liar on live television in front of a joint session of Congress – despite the fact that Rep. Wilson himself realized his outburst was inappropriate. Everyone has a right to express their opinion (even if they are factually wrong), but this was not the way to do it.

Actually, if a public option is passed it would be unconstitutional for them not to cover illegals. So if they pass it and it not in there, then the courts would just come in and force them. Andrew Napolitano explained it. I'll try and see if I can find the clip.

I still can't believe that he did that.

When the president is lying not only to you, but the American people, sometimes it's hard to hold back. And because of his outburst, people all over Twitter are calling him, surprise surprise, a Nazi and racist. But worse things have been said about Bush. Remember when Gore said that he had betrayed the country? Or when Harry Reid called him a looser and a liar.

Seriously? That’s your evidence that the President of the United States is knowingly lying to the American people…because a judicial analyst on FOX News told you so? This is a very serious charge. You’re going to have to do a lot better than that, Chris.

And because of his outburst, people all over Twitter are calling him, surprise surprise, a Nazi and racist.

I hate it when people do that but unfortunately in today’s political climate that happens all the time. Where you disappointed when Glenn Beck called the President a racist?

I'm still trying to find a link to his segment. If I can't I'll try to tape the re-airing of the show and write down what he said. If I can remember to set my VCR. But he is a former judge, so I'm guessing he knows a thing or two about what is and what isn't unconstitutional.

As for Beck, I don't believe Obama is racist. And it was a dumb thing of him to say.

Is that the reason Rep. Wilson called the President a liar? I would think there would be much better evidence than the fact that a FOX news legal analyst presumes that the Supreme Court will rule a provision in a bill unconstitutional. If that were true why hasn’t the current law that prohibits illegal immigrants from qualifying for federal health programs been ruled unconstitutional?

I'm guessing he knows a thing or two about what is and what isn't unconstitutional.

Isn’t it possible his interpretation is wrong? To say that the President is lying (not just mistaken but knowingly lying) you also have to presume that the President (who himself is a lawyer and a Constitutional scholar) knows this provision in the bill is unconstitutional and is banking on the fact that at least five Supreme Court Justices will eventually rule a certain way.

I'm glad you agree Glenn Beck's comment about the President being a racist was a dumb thing to say. It’s wrong when anyone says it (left or right). I hope you remember that the next time you highlight the fact that a person on the left called someone a racist.

The fact is Obama did lie. He lied several times during the speech and many more times in the last eight months about many topics. Obama is a politician. He is a good politician and also a very good liar. The Congressional Research Office confirmed that illegal immigrants will eventually be covered. They are covered now by the way. They show up at an ER and get care for free. They will still do it under Obamacare and the federal government will pay for it. The point is meaningless anyway because Obama will push for amnesty in the next few months. Flooded America with uneducated democrat voters is a major part of his "transformation" plans. So long American Republic. Hello Obama's Oligarchy. Of course Obama is only the front man.

You guys can’t even get your story straight about why Rep. Wilson thought the President was lying regarding illegal immigrants. Chris, keeps referring to a FOX news legal analyst and what the Supreme Court may or may not do regarding a bill that hasn’t even been passed yet and you are referring to a completely unrelated law that forbids certain hospitals from turning away patients with life-threatening conditions – a law that has remained in place under both Republicans and Democrats and is unlikely to change even with health care reform.

The real reason Rep. Wilson called the President a liar is because he believes without a requirement to check people’s citizenship status, the bar covering illegal immigrants won’t be effective. That actually makes some sense, but instead of talking about this reasonably you immediately label the President a liar - which presumes he knows the provision to bar covering illegal immigrants won’t work. I think the President was providing broad goals and assurances when he gave his speech on Wednesday and I think once a bill actually gets passed and he signs it, it’s perfectly appropriate to ask him how the bar covering illegal immigrants will actually be enforced.
