Semper Fi

On September 15 President Obama will award the Medal Of Honor to Cpl. Dakota Meyer. On Sept. 8, 2009 Meyer risked his life multiple times during a firefight in Ganjgal, Afghanistan to rescue Afghan soldiers his unit was training and find three fellow Marines and a Navy corpsman who went missing during the battle. Cpl Meyer will be only their third living recipient of the award.

U.S. Marines

Seven years shy of a century later, Russell E. Tucker Sr. got his due Friday at a ceremony where he was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds he suffered as a Marine in World War I.

In June of 1918 Russell Tucker and his fellow Marines marched into German machine gun fire in Belleau, France and drove the enemy back. Russel, then only 19-years-old, was shot in the temple and in the right hand losing part of his knuckle on his index finger. But because there was no such award as the Purple Hart at the time it's taken almost a century for it to finally be awarded.

RMC Thomas James Reeves
RMC Thomas James Reeves
46 years old from Thomaston, Connecticut
December 9, 1895 - December 7, 1941
U.S. Navy

On December 7, 1941, Radioman Chief Thomas Reeves was aboard the U.S.S. California. During the attack he helped load the anti-aircraft ammo, by hand, until he was overcome by smoke and fire. For his actions that day RMC Reeves was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

His citation reads: "For distinguished conduct in the line of his profession, extraordinary courage and disregard of his own safety during the attack on the Fleet in Pearl Harbor, by Japanese forces on 7 December 1941. After the mechanized ammunition hoists were put out of action in the U.S.S. California, Reeves, on his own initiative, in a burning passageway, assisted in the maintenance of an ammunition supply by hand to the antiaircraft guns until he was overcome by smoke and fire, which resulted in his death." In 1943 the destroyer escort USS Reeves was named in his honor.

James Murphy is a musical genius. I love this band. Every time I listen to them it puts me in a good mood because their music is so vibrant and peppy. Even their songs that aren't so cheery still have this magic where you can't help but feel happy. So when they broke up a few months back I was heartbroken. "I'm losing my edge to the art-school Brooklynites in little jackets and borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered eighties." Gotta love that line.

Hooah To Oklahoma's 45th Infantry

In the last couple of weeks Oklahoma's 45th Infantry has lost seven soldiers while on deployment in Afghanistan. That's double what they lost since September 11, 2001.
"It's a very dangerous mission," Major General Myles Deering said. "They all knew that going in, but that doesn't make it any easier. And we all suffer a little bit with the losses that they have had."

Major General Myles Deering says the 45th is spread out all over eastern Afghanistan and they're engaging in frontline combat.
It's been almost a daily thing to turn on the 5:00 news and hear another report of an Oklahoma Soldier either killed or being laid to rest and sadly I don't think we've seen the last just yet. God bless these Men and their families.

Perhaps the best "fake" band ever with one of the coolest songs I've ever heard. I'm not a big fan of Rap, but you put it with a good electro beat an I'm all over it. "I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad, I got sunshine, in a bag, I'm useless, but not for long, The future is coming on." Contains brief language.

Marine Recieves Kidney

Back in March it was reported that Marine Sgt. Jake Chadwick was in need of a kidney transplant as both of his were failing. A donor had been found at one point but it didn't happen at the time. Update: a donor was found and Sgt. Chadwick has received the transplant and is doing well. Due to confidentiality policies the name of the donor has not been released. Only that he was a 24-year-old member of the Armed Forces who passed away due to non-combat related issues.

One of the best. Paul Oakenfold always blows me away whether with his own stuff or a remix of someone elses work. He has the magic touch.

Missing Vietnam Soldier Identified

Army Chief Warrant Officer George A. Howes, of Knox, Ind., will be buried Aug. 5 in Arlington National Cemetery. On Jan. 10, 1970, Howes and three aircrew members were returning to their base at Chu Lai, South Vietnam aboard a UH-1C Huey helicopter. Due to bad weather, their helicopter went down over Quang Nam Province, Socialist Republic of Vietnam (S.R.V.). A search was initiated for the crew, but no sign of the helicopter or crew was spotted.

In 1989, the S.R.V. gave to U.S. specialists 25 boxes that reportedly contained the remains of U.S. servicemen related to this incident. Later that year, additional remains and a military identification tag from one of the other missing servicemen were obtained from a Vietnamese refugee.

Electronic/Techno/Trance/Rave, or any of the seemingly endless styles, just isn't that big here in America. I actually only know one other person who likes it. It's not everyone's style of music but hopefully I can change some minds over the next five weeks. Though you may not listen to it it's a guarantee you hear it all the time. Watch just about any car commercial.

This was the hardest one to choose because they have so many great songs but I think I found one. Futuristic computer sound? Check. Repetitive thumping beat? Check. Classic.
