Between now and July 4, Anheuser-Busch is teaming up with the Folds Of Honor Foundation to donate $1.5 million for military scholarships, and we get to help decide where the donations go. All you have to do is download the Blippar app from the iPhone store or Google Play, scan the bowtie logo found on all Budweiser products and pick a state where you would like the money to go to. The top 10 states with the most votes will receive $100,000 in dedicated scholarships.

The Fisher House Foundation is a great charity that offers free housing for families of wounded service members to stay in while their loved one recuperates.
The Fisher House Foundation was start in 1990 and has a least one house at every major military medical center. Since there is no cost to the families they rely on donations to continue operating. So, please, head over to their site and check them out. And if you're able to, please make a donation.

We all love food during the holiday season. So while we pack on the extra pounds why not help those serving while we do it. Kenmore, the appliance company, is making donations to Heroes At Home to help make the holidays a little brighter for our brave Men and Women. All you have to do is head over to the Cookmore site and Kenmore will donate $1 for every recipe that's either submitted or downloaded. Their goal is 10,000 recipes, which would equate to $10,000. Easy peasy lemon.. piesy... sorry, I got food on the brain now.
About a month ago I posted about the Heroes At Home Wish Registry that Sears is doing to help our troops out this Holiday season. The registration has closed but you can still make donations, either in store or online, now through Nov. 16 to help those serving have a nice Hanukkah or Christmas. Over the past five years the Wish Registry has raised over $17 million and helped more than 83,000 families. Here's the video again if you haven't seen it.
Recently, Bank Of America announced plans to make 1,000 properties available to wounded vets and first responders. You may have seen in the news that two wounded servicemen and their families have already received new homes and more than two dozen more have been donated. You can lean more about the non-profit organizations helping, or if you'd like to help out yourself or find out how to apply for one of these homes, you can visit the sites below.

Everyone knows Gary Sinise, the actor. But Wednesday Hero is profiling Gary Sinise, the patriot. Since 2004, Sinise has been playing for our troops around the world with the Lt. Dan Band as well as for charities and benefits. In 2004 he, along with author Laura Hillenbrand, founded Operation Iraqi Children, now known as Operation International Children, to get school supplies to children children in Iraq. The program has since expanded to help children around the world. He serves as the national spokesperson for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial raising awareness for the memorial and other veterans' services. And in 2010 Sinise started the Gary Sinise Foundation to honor defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need

Don't forget that Saturday is the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. So if you haven't already done so you need to head out to the store tonight, or tomorrow, and pickup a few non-perishable canned and boxed goods and leave them by your mailbox. More and more people are needing this help every year so it's extremely important that people do this. It doesn't have to be a lot. A can or two of green beans will help.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a great nonprofit organization that was started in 2002 to help returning Vets who have been injured in the line of duty with physical, mental and financial aid. Please, head over to their site and make a donation, if you're able to. They also have WWP items you can purchase to help.
You Can Visit their site above or visit their Facebook and Twitter pages for more information.

89 years old from Tulsa, Oklahoma
May 28, 1922 - October 3, 2011

When Dick Biedermann asked the organizing committee of the Oklahoma Honor Flights how much more was needed to be raised he was told $10,000. His response was "Piece of cake. I can raise that". And in only four weeks he did just that. In fact, he raised $16,000 and in doing so was able to help send 105 of his fellow WWII veterans to D.C. to see the national WWII Memorial back in February of this year. He was scheduled to go with them but he had taken a fall the week before and was unable to go. But this was nothing new for the retired Naval Lieutenant. He was always helping others. The Ronald McDonald House, the United Way, the Tulsa Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association and so on. He saw it as his mission.
Sadly, Richard (Dick) Biedermann passed away on October 3 after a long battle with heart disease. He was buried on October 6 with full military honors by the VFW and Patriot Guard Riders.
You can read more about Dick Biedermann here and view his obituary here.

Back in May I posted about a new program that Operation Gratitude was doing in which they were sending stuffed toys to children who had a parent deployed overseas. In the two plus months since it started Operation Gratitude has shipped 20,000 Battalion Buddies to children across the U.S., Guam and Germany. Very awesome.

Troops in Iraq donate their hair to Locks Of Love. How very cool. If my hair would actually grow like a normal persons I'd let it grow and donate it, but it doesn't.
I was sent and email a few days ago with a link to Operation Give A Hug in it and I've been meaning to share it and, well, I'm finally getting around to it. Operation Give A Hug is an awesome group that gives dolls to children with deployed parents to help them cope. Head over and check them out.

SSgt. Ronell Bradley

On Sept. 21, 2005, SSgt. Ronell Bradley gave two legs and part of a hand for his country when the Humvee he was riding in was hit by a roadside bomb and now he needs our help to get his handicapped-accessible home built. If you're in the Charlotte, South Carolina area you can help. You can read the piece here.

I was forwarded this song. I couldn't do it as part of MCM because the only way you can listen to it is to download a copy for $1.25. But it is for a good cause, the Challenged Athletes Foundations & Operation Rebound. So head over and check it out.
Sears is helping military families this Christmas. When you make a donation to Heroes At Home Gift Registry Sears, along with various non-profit organizations, will use that money to give gift cards to military families for the holiday. Head over and see how you can help.
Help the children of those deployed this holiday season. It's called "Soldier" but I think they help all branches. I got this from FNC so it is legit.
