Chief Boatswain's Mate John B. Stefanek

John B. Stefanek was born the 4th of 9 children on August 24, 1919, in Cleveland. Ohio. He graduated from Benedictine Catholic High School in Cleveland in 1937. He was the first recipient of an award given for excellence in sports - an award he was very proud of.

He went to the Naval recruiting station to support a friend and give him courage. The friend was rejected because he had four molars missing. The Navy encouraged John to take the test - just for the heck of it! John was a sailor! He enlisted on April 19, 1939. The day John left, a Boston baseball farm contract arrived at the house. However, the Navy had him. He spent boot camp in Great Lakes. Illinois.

He would have liked to have been a pilot; however, this was unlikely as he was not an officer. He served aboard the USS Houston effective October 3, 1940. He played baseball for the USS Houston. He hit a home run in the same ballpark in Manila as Babe Ruth did.

He spent 42 months as a Japanese Prisoner of War. He, along with two other prisoners, prayed the rosary every day. He attributed his coming home to the daily masses, prayers and love of his mother. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy on May 19, 1946, as a Chief Boatswain's Mate.

He married Irma Kovacs on June 22, 1946. Their daughter Jane was born on June 2, 1947. He worked as a tile setter in Cleveland for more than 40 years. He received many awards for excellence in his tile setting. He died on May 18, 2000, at the age of 80 years. He was laid to rest on May 25, 2000, at Arlington National Cemetery. He loved his family and the Navy. He was a deeply religious man. He was a humble man who never bragged about himself.

These brave men and women risk their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

Memorial Day

Whether or not you agree with what they do, if you happen to see a soldier today make it a point to thank him or her for their service. And while you're out at the lake or in your backyard grilling your burgers, don't forget the reason we celebrate this day. Happy Memorial Day.

Political Correctness Finds Another Victim

First it was dodgeball and now this. Next year, in the state of Connecticut, high school football coaches will have a limit on how many times their team can score in a game. The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has come up with what's being called a "score management" policy. If a team wins a game by more than 50 points the coach of said team will be suspended for one game for "an unsportsmanlike infraction". Don't want the poor kids to feel like too big a losers.

"Okay guys, we're up by 30 points. Thompson, I want you to pass to Smith. Smith, I want you to then give the ball to the other team. We don't want them to feel left out."

If you're team sucks so bad as to fall behind by 50 points maybe you shouldn't be on the field.

Illegal Immigrant Wanted For Raping A 10-Year-Old Girl

Police in Pharr, Texas are looking for 21-year-old illegal alien who's accused of raping and impregnating a 10-year-old family member. Police believe that Pedro Guzman Muñoz had been raping the girl for at least six months and that he is now safe and sound back in Mexico.

War Veterans Need Our Help (Please Read)

As you all know, the Mt. Soledad cross is in trouble. If you don't know, the Mt. Soledad cross is a memorial put up in California erected during the Korean War in honor of the men and women in the armed forces. As you may also know, the ACLU is trying to get it torn down. The cross is on private property but that doesn't matter to them. The people of San Diego voted to hand over the land to the federal government and it was declared a national monument. The ACLU didn't care about that. They went to a state judge and got the ruling overturned. The city will now have to remove the memorial in less than 90 days unless a state or federal judge orders a stay of the order or President Bush or Congress steps in and takes the land. Schwarzenegger Does Have Some Intelligence

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to veto a bill that would require California textbooks to contain information about the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in American history. What a homophobe. According to Schwarzenegger's spokesman Adam Mendelsohn

The governor believes that school curriculum should include all important historical figures, regardless of orientation. However, he does not support the legislature micromanaging curriculum

Bingo.

Here's something that gets me. This bill would be for all school textbooks. Even kindergarten. So, if it were to pass, parents would be forced, by the government, to have their children immersed in something they may not want them to be learning about. If Liberals really believed in freedom of choice why don't they want parents to have that freedom? It's good to see Arnold has his head screwed on tight about this.

Another Child Rapist Gets Off

We've seen it a lot lately. Judges giving child rapists a slap on the hand for their crimes. Well, it's happened again. This time in Nebraska. District Judge Kristine Cecava has given 50-year-old child rapist Richard W. Thomson 10 years of probation instead of a prison sentence because, and get this, she feels he is too small to survive in prison. Thompson is only 5' 1". I'm only 5' 5", does that mean I can go out, commit a crime, and not have to go to jail? I smell free pass. Thank God Bill O'Reilly is pushing so hard for Jessica's Law.
