I NEED MONEY, WHOLE LOTS OF MONEY
I'm in the hi-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet
Money it's a crime
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie

It seems that Hillary thinks the Government should waste more of your money by creating a 9/11-style commission to figure out what exactly happened with hurricane Katrina. I can tell you what happened, and it won't cost you millions of dollars. The governor of Louisiana didn't properly prepare her state for something like this even though she knew what could happen if a category 5 storm were to hit. What also happened is that people either refused to leave or just weren't able to. That's the fault of the local government, not federal. Blanco and Nagin had the responsibility to get their people to safety, not Bush.

And guess who else is supporting Hillary's cockamamy idea? None other than closet Liberal John McCain. What a shock.
The Only Thing Necessary For Evil To Triumph
Is For Good Men To Do Nothing

The governor of Louisiana sent a letter on August 28 asking the President for disaster relief aid, so yes, it's definitely the governor's fault, not the president's. *rolls eyes*

Also, there's the fact that the National Guard is understaffed and underequipped - that's Rumsie's fault for not listening to his military advisors about Iraq, and subsequently having to use the National Guard as reserves.

Also, there's the fact that although several states offered to send in their National Guard to make up for that lack, the paperwork only came back from Washington 5 days later.

Please don't forget why the Red Cross wasn't allowed into New Orleans, because the National Guard weren't letting them in, and because the state Homeland Security Department believes that their presence "would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city".

Oh, and don't forget the military food drops... or lack thereof is FEMA's fault. (Do a search on that page for "Wattenburg", just to speed things up)

Allow me to quote the Mayor of Slidell, Ben Morris here, just for a bit more on FEMA's incompetance:
"We are still hampered by some of the most stupid, idiotic regulations by FEMA. They have turned away generators, we've heard that they've gone around seizing equipment from our contractors. If they do so, they'd better be armed because I'll be damned if I'm going to let them deprive our citizens. I'm pissed off, and tired of this horse$#@@."

Now you say that the President's in the clear - but please tell me how a President who'll fly to Washington in a heartbeat to save Ms Schiavo, instead of going to Washington and take charge of this situation, can go on to photo-shoots and publicity stunts, and not be to blame?
Oh, don't forget that he slashed both the funding for both levee upgrades,
and the federal disaster relief fund.

I think you have your values not just slightly skewed, but wholely out of whack.

Allow me to put this plainly for you:
Your President is an unreliable arse.

Greta:
I'm going to quote Lt. Commander Kelly of NorthCom on why, despite the fact that they were ready, they couldn't do anything for New Orleans in time:
"The only caveat is: we have to wait until the president authorizes us to do so. The laws of the United States say that the military can't just act in this fashion; we have to wait for the president to give us permission."

Similarly with the National Guard, they needed Washington to sign off on it, since they're the military as well.

And yes, since FEMA is the Federal Emergency Management Agency, it IS meant to be there asap.

And no John, given that I've read what those presidential visits entail, it doesn't change my opinion one bit. A german media group noted that while all the American media groups were smiles and roses, the instant Bush's speeches to them were done, the whole shabang packed up - food included, leaving the survivors to have to go back to scrounging for themselves.

That's all Bush's been doing - publicity stunts to make himself look good.

Here's another thing on Bush's tour of destruction, just to help you understand my viewpoint on it.

Yeah - he goes there. Just like he did a campaign using photos of himself looking down on the 9/11 site from Airforce 1. Really nice.

What I was wanting you to see was the fact that the govenor actually wasted more time by indicision.

The governor had already requested help days before Katrina hit.
