Star Trek premieres today. I don't think I've looked forward to a movie more than this one. Almost two years since this movie was announced.
I was against it at first. I mean,
Star Trek: TOS is an institution around the world. Shatner is Kirk. Nemoy is Spock. Kelly is McCoy. And I felt they shouldn't do this. But then I saw the first trailer with the Enterprise being build and Nemoy's voice over with the classic "Space, The Final Frontier", and now I'm drooling over this movie. Even if the time travel plot is a cheap ploy to change things the way Abrams wants. I won't go into geek mode and complain about Spock and Uhura's "relationship" or Kirk driving a car and motorcycle even though such things didn't exist in the Trek universe anymore or Chekov being on the bridge at the start or Sulu going from Japanese to Korean. Although, there is something to be said about seeing Uhura in her underwear. Can't complain too much about that. Some purists won't like it because Trek never really need sex like that to sell, but like
Nemoy said, fans need to open their minds and enjoy this movie for the movie. And that's what I'm going to try and do.

Saw it yesterday...I thought they did a great job.
We saw Star Trek Friday and loved it. I do have a problem with Spock and Uhura doing the kissy thing! But, I'm old fashioned and in your words, maybe a purists. I like a little lovin in my movies but for Spock in Star Trek , uh, no! Out of place. I think they did a great job selecting appropriate characters to be the ones we all know and love.
