Memorial Day

Remember, today isn't about that three-day weekend. It's not about going to the lake. It's not about 1/2 off sales. It's not about breaking out the grill. It's about one thing and one thing only. Remembering the sacrifice that someone made for you and thanking them for it.

You may find it odd using this band and this song for this day, but just listen and enjoy.

These Colours Don't Run by Iron Maiden

Far away from the land of our birth
We fly a flag in some foreign earth
We sailed away like our fathers before
These colours don't run from cold, bloody war

Wednesday Hero

Companions For Heroes
Companions For Heroes

This week, Wednesday Hero is profiling another great nonprofit organization called Companions For Heroes(formerly Pets 2 Vets or P2V). C4H rescues animals from shelters and pairs them with service members, police, firefighters and first responders suffering from physical wounds as well as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). All free of charge. Head over and check them out and make a donation, if you're able to, volunteer your time or you can let them know of a hero who's in need of their help.

You can "Like" them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

"Battleship" Prize Pack, Part II

If you'll recall, last week I posted info on a "Battleship" prize pack, to coincide with the release of the movie, which consists of a "Battleship" Hat, T-shirt, Backpack and Water Bottle. If you'd like to win it all you have to do is email me your name, address and phone number. Don't worry, I'm the only one who see your info so there's no threat of anything getting out. The only requirement is that you must be a resident of the continental United States. Sorry Hawaii and Alaska. I'll stop taking emails on Friday, May 18th, at 5pm Central time, you can figure out your time zone, at which point I will pick a random winner and inform them. This is being crossposted with Hooah Wife so good luck.

Music Monday

Chuck, Jimi, Clapton, Beck, SRV. They've all held the crown. But today, it's a man called Joe Bonamassa. If you've never heard him play prepare to have your mind blown. He also plays in a band called "Black Country Communion" with Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham and Derek Sherinian. Check them out while you're at it. I don't know the quality of the video as I haven't seen it, dialup, but I'm hoping it's the pro shot from the concert.

Stamp Out Hunger

Don't forget that Saturday is the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. So if you haven't already done so you need to head out to the store tonight, or tomorrow, and pickup a few non-perishable canned and boxed goods and leave them by your mailbox. More and more people are needing this help every year so it's extremely important that people do this. It doesn't have to be a lot. A can or two of green beans will help.

You Sank My Battleship

As you probably already know, the movie "Battleship", which looks awesome by the way, based on the classic game, is scheduled to be released next Friday, the 18th, and they're giving away a prize pack which includes:
- Battleship Hat
- Battleship T-shirt
- Battleship Backpack
- Battleship Water Bottle

Details on how to win this prize pack will be released soon. In the mean time, you can visit their Facebook and Twitter pages and play an online game. Which, sadly, I'm unable to play because of the dial up :( And if you could, if you talk the movie on FB or Twitter, use the #Battleship and @BattlehipMovie tags.

The Return

Guess who's back? After a two week hiatus I have returned. Wednesday Hero will resume next week, as will Music Monday. While I was gone there were some MIA servicemen who had been found and returned home and I wanted to post them.
