Wednesday Hero

This Weeks Hero Was Suggested By Mary Ann

Wednesday Hero was started to put a face to the men and women of the American Armed Forces and what they do for us. Vary rarely has there been a member of a foreign military profiled. In fact, in the two years Wednesday Hero's been going on it's only been done once before. Here's the second.

Lance Corporal Matt Croucher
Lance Corporal Matt Croucher
24 years old from Birmingham, England
40 Commando Royal Marines
Royal Marines

L/Cpl Matt Croucher is not only one of the bravest men alive, he's also one of the luckiest men alive. On the morning of February 9, 2008 L/Cpl. and his unit were searching a compound near Sangin in Afghanistan that was suspected of being used to make bombs to be used in attacks on British and Afghan troops. Walking in the darkness among a group of four men, Croucher stepped into a tripwire that pulled the pin from a boobytrap grenade. His patrol commander, Corporal Adam Lesley, remembered Croucher shouting "Grenade!"

As others dived for cover, Croucher did something nobody expected. He lay down on the grenade to smother the blast. Lesley got on the ground, another man got behind a wall, but the last member of the patrol was still standing in the open when the grenade went off.

"My reaction was, 'My God this can't be real'," said Lesley. "Croucher had simply lain back and used his day sack to blunt the force of the explosion. You would expect nine out of 10 people to die in that situation." L/Cpl. Croucher was that 1/10. Not only did he survive, amazingly he only suffered shock from the blast and a bloody nose. He was saved by the special plating inside his Osprey body armor. The backpack he was wearing was thrown more than 30ft by the blast.

"I felt one of the lads giving me a top to toe check. My head was ringing. Blood was streaming from my nose. It took 30 seconds before I realized I was definitely not dead," said L/Cpl. Croucher.

For his actions that day, L/Cpl. Croucher was in line for the Victoria Cross, the highest award for a British Serviceman, but it has yet to be awarded.

Reason 3 Why America Is Dying

15-year-old Miley Cyrus poses semi-topless, only a towel wrapped around her, for Vanity Fair then claims she's embarrassed about it. Her parents where right there the whole time and said nothing. She even told the interviewer that she was happy with the photos.

No one takes responsibility any more. It's always someone else's fault, not ours. Even the Disney Channel is blaming Vanity Fair. Plus, why would her parents let her do this? She's a child and they think it's okay for her to pose for a picture like this? I think 'ol Billy Ray's been hanging out with the ignorant Hollywood morons too long.

Gitmo Made Me Crazy

Salim Ahmed Hamdan has been driven mad while detained at Gitmo. At least according to his lawyer.
They say Hamdan, already the subject of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling, has essentially been driven insane by solitary confinement in a tiny cell where he spends at least 22 hours a day, goes to the bathroom and eats all his meals. His defense team says he is suicidal, hears voices, has flashbacks, talks to himself and says the restrictions of Guantánamo "boil his mind."
These are people who strap bombs to themselves, mentally disabled women and children. They're already insane. You know what this Hamdan needs? He need a weekend pass. Let him go to Havana during the weekends so he can clear his mind and stop his brain from boiling.

Reason 2 Why America Is Dying

Richie Sambora arrested for DUI with his 10-year-old daughter, her friend and another woman in the car.

Lack of judgment and stupidity. You go out, get shitfaced and then get behind the wheel. And the whole time there is a woman there who could have drove. Why didn't she? Sambora is almost 50. The man should have enough brains by now to know better.

Reason 1 Why America Is Dying

America is dying from within. For various reasons. But the main culprit behind it is the fact that we are getting dumber and dumber with each generation. This country use to pride itself on how hard we worked and in doing so being self-sufficient. Today it's all about putting a video online of us acting as ignorant as possible in hopes of becoming a web celebrity, or "webrity". Or as I like to call them, "webutard". We can no longer make our own products. We have to have other countries make our military equipment for crying out loud. We, as a country, are dying. In a few short generations this country will no longer be recognizable. Many kids today have this sense of self-entitlement, believing they should have everything handed to them and shouldn't have to earn anything. Many no longer want to work at a job that's "hard". They want big money and they want it fast. We have become a nation of soft, coddling, over protective wusses. Again, this country is dying. So I have decided to start a new series of posts that point out various reasons why I feel we are declining not only as a country but as a society at large. This isn't reason #1 why we are, it's just the first one I'm doing. And I suspect many of these post will be dealing with celebrities.

The Temperature Is Rising

"Ladies and gentlemen, the world temps are going up. It's the consensus of every scientist that matters. Can someone please turn the heater up a little? Thanks. As I was saying, global warming is making planet Earth hotter by the year. Hey, Joey, can I borrow your coat? It's freezing in here."

Don't you just love it when nature makes these people look foolish?

Can We Borrow Some Of Your Internet?

Did anyone watch South Park last night? It was one of the best episodes they'd done in a long time. The internet went down and nobody knew what to do. The reason it was so funny is because it's true. My service tends to go out sometimes and stays out for about 2-3 days. I can barely stand it. In the episode, nobody knew how to communicate with each other, news channels didn't know what do to and in an homage to The Grapes Of Wrath, everyone headed out to "Californee" for some internet. And South Park always has some sort of message at the end. It was about conservation. Don't take things for granted. But could you image if the net were to actually go down. People would seriously freak out. If you get a chance to watch the episode, do it. But there is a warning. One of the parents needs strange internet porn to "relieve himself". Japanese schoolgirls puking on each other, Canadian fart porn. Things like that. And when he finally is able to get his fix, uh... the aftermath of his relief is everywhere. It's a scene that I was amazed made it past the censors. Funny, but sick.
This post isn't about being against or for anything. It's just a side of the debate that I haven't seen discussed.

I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately. With this massive global movement about going Green, which is good because a clean planet is a good planet, there's been an aspect that's been mostly ignored. At least I've never heard it discussed. When we get off polluting fossil fuels such as oil and coal, what happens to the people working in those industries? I don't mean the corporate fat cats sitting in their ivory towers lighting their cigars with $100 bills[/sarcasm]. I mean the average man and woman working their asses off in a coal mine or on an oil derrick to support their families. There are some people out there who can't do anything else. Believe me, I know. This is all they know how to do for varying reasons. What happens to them? Do we tell them to get a less skilled job that pays half of what they were making before? That their families may have to do without some things because it's better in the long run? I ask because I don't know.

And then there's this. Many, if not most, gas stations now use blended mixtures of gas and ethanol and are driver are getting lower gas mileage. A local station did a story where they talked to a guy who was getting 16mpg before they switched and is now getting 14mpg. 9% less. And what with gas now at least $3.19/gallon, $3.29 in other areas of Oklahoma, people are having to fill up more often costing them even more in the long run. Why is hardly anyone talking about this? Could it maybe, possibly be that most in the media have an agenda and don't see fit to give face time to the other side of a debate that's closed?

And I love in that Tulsa World piece how some actually think President Bush and VP Cheney are somehow behind this. How he'll be sipping martini's in Cancun with his profits when he leaves office. These are probably the same people who think he masterminded the attacks on September 11, 2001.

Maj. Mark E. Rosenberg
Maj. Mark E. Rosenberg
32 years old from Miami Lakes, Florida
3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division
April 8, 2008

Mark Rosenberg grew up in South Florida. "All boy," his aunt, Madelyn Rosenberg, remembers. "Very active, but very lovable." As long as she can recall, Maj. Rosenberg wanted a military career like his father, Burton Rosenberg, had.

He attended New Mexico Military Institute and entered the Army in 1996. Later, he met a woman, Julie, and they married one day after his sister's wedding. He and Julie had two boys, now 3 and 22 months. They settled in Colorado near Fort Carson, where he was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division.

Maj. Rosenberg was on his second tour of duty when the Humvee he was riding in was struck by an IED in Baghdad.

"He would say he's over there to do a job," Madelyn Rosenberg remembered. "He loved what he was doing."

To Help Make Your Day

The next two days, well today and Tuesday, are going to be rough for some. First, it's Monday. You had a nice Weekend and now you have to go back to that hell called a job. And Tuesday is the day the government comes in and steals your money that they have no right to while you struggle to make ends meet. So, to help lighten the mood a little I'm going to post a couple of pictures that you can load up anytime you feel the weight of the world crashing down on you. This first one is one you can caption. Enjoy.

Write The Troops

It’s time for a new Letters from Home project. This time I will be collecting letters for the Navy. I’ll be sending them off to the USS Russell — DDG-59. So, just like last time, please send generalized supportive emails to me, and I will make sure that they get to the men and women aboard the Russell. When you send your email, please be sure and put “Letters from Home” in the subject line. We’re aiming for about 250 emails, so I’m hoping to have them collected and packed up by the end of the month. As with last time, anything you all can do to help spread the word would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, they have their own blog there on the Russell. There’s some great writing going on there! Their crew gives you a good close look at life aboard a modern destroyer at war.

This news comes from Jim at the great blog Thinking Right.
Surely we can each write a supportive email to these sailors and send them some great love from home!

The New McCarthyism

But nobody's hunting Red Commies this time. And you can't really call it McCarthyism this time, either. It's more like Goreism, for lack of a better term. You see, in the 1940's and 50's, Sen. Joseph McCarthy helped in the hunt for Communists in America. They used every tactic they could to hunt down the "Red Menace" in this country. And didn't care who they went to go through or hurt along the way. And that's what's happening today with the global warming debate. The Great Green Conspiracy will use any tactic it can push their agenda. A perfect example is the BBC. They recently published a piece on their website called "Global Temperatures To Decrease". After reading it, one lone activist fired off an email to man who wrote the article. And in the matter of 1 hour and 16 minutes, she got him to change it to something she liked better. How did she do this?
I am about to send your comments to others for their contribution,
unless you request I do not. They are likely to want to post your
comments on forums/fora, so please indicate if you do not want this to
happen. You may appear in an unfavourable light because it could be
said that you have had your head turned by the sceptics.
She threatened him and he caved. Fall in line. Global Warming is not a debate. It's an "emerging truth" bashed on and "infant science". Agree with us or we'll hunt you down and defame, or even censor, you. Makes you wonder how many other articles and such have been altered or censored because of Goreism.

Glenn Beck has a good segment about this on his show on Tuesday. Search for the sentence All right, welcome to "The Real Story"

Hateful Left Celebrate Charlton Heston's Death

Some of the headlines and comments over at Democratic Underground.

Will he be made into Soylent Green?

I wish he’d have died of a bullet wound. - NOT because of any spite or hatred for the crazy old kook … just because I like irony.

1 less right wingnut to worry about

NOW will somebody pry his cold, dead hands from that frickin’ penis substitute?

If “liberal” means giving every mean-spirited bastard in the world a break solely on the account that they are a fellow homo sapien?… feeling any sense of loss that some sorry piece of shithumanity such as C Heston has checked out? Then sign me out. I am glad that he is no longer breathing the same air that you and I share. Just tell me the address to where I need to mail my “Liberal” card.

Coincidence or cause and effect? - I wonder what came first; the Alzheimer’s or the NRA Presidency?

He was a prick. - And good riddance, about 35 years too late.

Their brain-eroding diseases coincided with their rightwing turns

Even evil people pass away. Bush’s promoters can’t live for eternity.

Bye Mr. Heston. Hopefully you won’t be such an asshole in the next life.

Can’t say I feel sorry for Charlton Heston. From all I heard he was as rightwing as they come.

Condolences to the family - hat’s the only kind thing I can think of to say.

The hero of the Gun Pushers is dead - I hope the NRA will follow his lead in this one.

So glad to hear some good news for a change. - I hope that spreader of misery spends all his glory days around the eternal flames of hell with ol’ Raygun talkin’ ’bout how they really fucked this country - oh they probably won’t even remember, lol. How about we quit glorifying someone just because they had the good sense to DIE.

he had it coming. - I had no empathy for the aging Nazis, either.

NanPel Issues Warning To War Hero

"Gen. Betrayus, even though you're in Iraq and we're not, you better not come in here and tell us something we know is a lie". Of course, I'm paraphrasing here.
Story
Drug cartels are using classified job ads to lure young Mexicans near the U.S. border into unknowingly working as drug couriers, law enforcement officials said Thursday.

Mexico City's El Universal newspaper first reported the trend Thursday, saying ads in some Ciudad Juarez newspapers require applicants to have the U.S. visa needed to drive a vehicle across the border but do not mention job experience.

"A lot of times they advertise as if they were a company, and they send them to El Paso but they don't tell them what they are carrying," an official at the federal Attorney General's office in Ciudad Juarez told The Associated Press. He was not authorized to be quoted by name.
But wanting tighter security at the borders makes us racists.

Cheap Wine & Cheaper Women

Lyrics from April's Album Of The Month:

Women come and go
They never do remain
They take more than they give
But it's me who's to blame
I'm at the bottom of the bottle
And nothin's all I got
Yeah it may not be the answer but it sure does hit the spot

And if you don't love this album, the you're not a real American. :p

Ladies & Gentlemen, Your U.S. Government Hard At Work

The Citizens Against Government Waste has released their 2008 Congressional Pig Book Summary. While we're down here struggling to get by, what with April 15 breathing down our necks, they're up there wasting our money on stupid crap like:

$1.9 million for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at The City College of New York. The project was slipped into the Labor/Health and Human Services spending bill by none other than Rep. Charles B. Rangel, the Democratic chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee

$3 million for "The First Tee," a program designed to teach the game of golf to young people. This was slipped into the Defense Appropriations Bill by House Majority Whip James Clyburn of South Carolina. Though The First Tee has extensive corporate sponsors and individual donators, Clyburn said the program "will help make generals and colonels"
Can golf really make generals and colonels?

$188,000 for the Lobster Institute in Maine. This was added by Maine's Republican Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, along with Rep. Thomas Allen. It is said to be a cooperative program of "research and education with the lobster industry." Among other programs, the institute has been working on an underwater "lobster cam" and touts one of its achievements as the creation of lobster biscuits for dogs
I know my dog's mouth is watering for lobster biscuits

More than $740,000 went to olive fruit fly research, of which $211,000 will pay for research that takes place in Paris, France. This program was added to the agriculture spending bill by Democratic Rep. Mike Thompson of California

Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia is a legendary pork barreller, and in his list of earmarks this year is $123,050 for a Mother's Day shrine in Grafton, W.V., which has a population of 5,489

Virginia Republican Rep. Virgil Goode added $98,000 to the budget to develop a walking tour of Boydton, Va., which boasts a population of 474 and covers less than one square mile
I'm sure Boydton, Va. has many, many historical sites and needs this money for their tours to them

$390,000 for jazz music at Lincoln Center earmarked by NY Senators Clinton, Schumer & Nadler

$1.6 million for the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago earmarked by Ill. Senators Obama, Durbin, House appropriator Mark Kirk and Rep. Davis. The aquarium receives 2 million visitors a year and has 36 corporate backers

And one of the things I like about Sen. McCain, he didn't request any earmarks and he's against them.

You can download the 59 page PDF here.

Spc. Jeffrey Jamaleldine
Spc. Jeffrey Jamaleldine
Company C, 1st Battalion, 77th Armor

"How can I say to my sons, stand up for something, fight for what you think is right, if I don't do anything myself?"

The Jeffrey Jamaleldine that you speak to today is a complete 180 from the Jeffrey Jamaleldine that you would have spoke to in the past. In 1991, Jamaleldin was living in Germany when joined in anti-American protests on Berlin's Kurfürstendamm boulevard during Operation Desert Storm. "That was the way it was back then," he says. He was 15 and "America was simply the enemy." And today, Jeffery Jamaleldine is a wounded veteran of the U.S. Army. On June 6, 2005, after the terror bombing in Madrid, Spain, in the middle of the Iraq war, he showed up at the U.S. Army recruiting office in Little Rock, Arkansas, to enlist. His father, Bashir, told him at the time: "Son, this won't be a picnic."

On June 30, Jamaleldine was on patrol in Ramadi, Iraq. The patrol ahead of him had been ambushed by at least 70 combatants and were now under fire. During the fight, Spc. Jeffrey Jamaleldine was hit in the face by a bullet. In the end, the battle lasted into the next morning and the soldiers were able to stop the enemy from returning to Ramadi.

The article on Spc. Jeffrey Jamaleldine is five pages long, and I simply can not condense it down to only a few paragraphs. You can read the entire story here.
