Star Trek & The War On Terror

If you're not a Trek fan then the following post will be alien to you, pun intended, but please keep reading. This post deals with two of the ST shows. The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. In an episode of TNG, a rouge Federation Captain is firing upon, and destroying, ships that belong to a race known as the Cardassians because he believes they, the Cardassians, are arming themselves for war. Captian Picard doesn't want to believe it, until the end, and does nothing about except let them know that the Federation will be watching. Then, years later, in the ST timeline, and during DS9, the Cardassians attack and war begins. And the Captain of DS9, who is willing to do what he needs to do, must now fight this war because Picard was so short-sighted as to think everything would resolve itself. Now, had Picard done something about when he had the chance maybe the war never would have happened. Remind you of anything?

For another Star Trek/War On Terror tie-in, watch Enterprise Season 3.

Israel agrees to a 48-hour ceasefire. Not the move I would have made, but then again I'm not the one fighting. A temporary ceasefire won't solve anything. But that's just my opinion.

Israel is saying that the building in Qana that was hit fell eight hours afterwards. If you've been watching Fox News today then you've seen the video that shows Hezbollah firing rockets from the vicinity of that building. They, Hezbollah, denied that they were but the video clearly shows it. I don't know if the video has played on other networks because FNC were saying it was an exclusive from the IDF.

If you're still one of the hold outs that still thinks that there's not a problem with kids today, keep reading. I've know this girl since she was born, but I haven't seen her in something like ten years. She's 16 now. She's my newphew's sister, different dad so no relation to me. This is from her MySpace profile. It scares me that these will be the people running this country in 10-15 years.

Kofi Annan's Foot In Mouth Disease 2

Sorry, Za.
The email from Major Paeta Hess-von Kruedener warned that the post had come under "unintentional" artillery fire and aerial bombing several times in the previous weeks, and that several Hezbollah positions were in the area of the patrol base.
I know you, like Kofi Annan, were hoping the evil Israeli Empire had targeted the U.N., but it seems that may not have been the case after all.

Kofi Annan's Foot In Mouth Disease

It's good to see Kofi's not jumping to conclusions. I mean come on, we all know Annan's not a big fan of Israel but to claim that they purposely attacked U.N. workers, without any evidence, is a pretty bold statement. I mean, it's not like they're Muslim extremists. What could they gain by killing United Nations observers? He, Annan, doesn't seem to be doing much about U.N. "peacekeepers" raping women and children and turns a blind eye to Oil For Blood until it's exposed, but is quick to jump on this.

More On Olbermann

In my post below I linked to a story where Keith Olbermann doned a Bill O'Reilly mask and mocked him. Well, here's a little more about it. And the picture to go along with it.I love it when dickheads like Olbermann do things like this. It shows who they really are. He views Bill O'Reilly as a Republican, therefore he's a Nazi. Bush is a Nazi. I'm a Nazi. John K's a Nazi. DeoDuce is a Nazi. All because we're Conservative Republicans. Anyone who wants to try to defend this shithead can just stop now becausee I will delete the comment. I'm sick and fucking tired of being compared to Hitler and the Nazi's because of who I am.

In Case You Missed It

Keith Olberman's jealousy for Bill O'Reilly strikes again. I like how they say Olberman finishes third in the timeslot. It's true, but they neglect to mention that he has the second lowest rated show on cable news. Just above his compadre Tucker Carlson.

Stem Cells

As we've all heard by now, President Bush is prepared to make his first veto since taking office in 2000. He's planning on killing the DeGatte/Castle bill that would expand federal funding for stem cell research. Now, prepare for something that may shock you. And I may lose some respect for this by some, but I think this may be a wrong move. Don't get me wrong. I'm as opposed to abortion as I ever was, but I think there is room for compromise here. And I think this bill is it. Because it suggests taking embryos, not from aborted babies, but rather those left over from invitro fertilization. Yes, it's still abortion, but it's not some whore coming in for her third time. These embryos would be disposed of anyway. The requirements for which the embryos will be used, from the DeGette/Castle bill
Embryos used to derive stem cells were originally created for fertility treatment purposes and are in excess of clinical need

The individuals seeking fertility treatments for whom the embryos were created have determined that the embryos will not be implanted in a woman and will otherwise be discarded

The individuals for whom the embryos were created have provided written consent for embryo donation.
We all know that stem cells do have the potential to cure diseases. Does it still make me uneasy? Yes, but life is full of compromises. Sometimes we have to support things we don't necessarily like. I hate war, but I support it when our troops are called. But beware being so blind as to think that embryonic stem cells are the only hope. Because there have been successes with adult and umbilical stem cells.

Pink Floyd - Pulse

If you were never lucky enough to have seen a live Floyd show, like me, then this is your chance to have just a sliver of what it must have been like. This concert was filmed in October of 1994 at the famed Earls Court in England. This show was pure magic. Total sensory overload. Pink Floyd is famous for their live shows. Massive productions. Pyro, lazers, lights, and this DVD really brings it to you in spectacular form. Plus, you get the entire "Dark Side Of The Moon" album performed live. Just an amazing show. Make sure you turn your sound up when watching/listening to "Comfortably Numb". It'll blow you away. Also, pick up the companion CD. It has a couple of songs that aren't on the DVD.

All Talk, No Action

You all may have heard about this story. The Senate voting down a bill that would fund the building of the border fence that they approved of back in May. Well, before you make a judgment about it, read it. I can understand why they would have voted it down. The cutting of 750 new border agents, but screw the beds. Then there's' the second attempt. This one includes consulting Mexico before the building of the fence. What? Why consult Mexico? That doesn't make any sense what so ever. Anyway, someone in the Senate needs to get of their rich, wrinkled ass and draw up a bill that would actually work.
We will rightly be accused of not being serious about the commitments we've made to the American people with regard to actually enforcing the laws of immigration in America, which many Americans already believe we're not serious about.

The Rise Of The Third Party

If you watch a lot of cable news, then you've no doubt seen the countless stories along the lines of "Is This The Time For A Third Party?" or "Can A Third Party Candidate Win In '08?" I think it's time for a serious third party candidate. I think this country is itching for something other than the Republicans and Democrats. Because, let's face it, the parties have moved away from their bases. Both have moved further to the Left/Right and I think the American people are getting tied of it. "You're not a real Republican/Democrat unless you support...". For Republicans it's the War In Iraq and pro-Life. For Democrats it's pulling out of Iraq and stem cell research. Those were just a couple of examples, not a true litmus test. Why can't a Republican want to pull out of Iraq and be pro-Life or a Democrat support the War In Iraq and support stem cell research and both get widespread support? People, and I include myself in this, have become disillusioned with "politics as usual". Perfect example. Democrats have a new ad out that Republicans are outraged over because it shows flag draped coffins of soldiers. Anyone remember the Bush ad in 2004 that showed firefighters carrying the flag draped body of one of their own from the WTC? Republicans praised it and Democrats slammed it. Now the roles are reversed and Democrats are praising this new ad while Republicans are slamming it. It's almost enough to make you not want to vote in the next election. That's why I think it's time for a valid candidate to win. I've already pledged my support for someone who'll have to run as a third party candidate in '08. I won't say whoRudy, but those who've been paying attention over the past few months will knowRudy who it is. I love the Republican party. I love being a Republican, but I'm just fed up with the way many of them have been acting. This is no longer the party of Ronald Reagan. And the Democratic Party is no longer the party of John F. Kennedy.

Japan Considers Strikes Against North Korea

You know the situation's gotten pretty bad when Japan is talking about pre-emptive strikes.

On a side note, I was watching a show last night on CNN called "Undercover In The Secret State". It talked about how, despite North Korea's best efforts, the true conditions of the country were finding their way out into the rest of the world. I knew North Korea was bad, but because every piece of information is controlled by the government, I had no idea it was that bad. This man, Kim Jong Il, is rivaling Saddam Hussein in his acts of atrocities. Think of all the things we do know about North Korea. Now, imagine all the things we don't know. How many mass graves are there? How many people are in prison for the crime of defacing a poster of Kim Jong Il? I don't know if they're going to air it again, but if they do you should watch it.

Voice the Vote, a Michigan based PAC, has taken out a full page ad in the Michigan Chronicle that shows pictures of Adolf Hitler and Democrats and urges black voters not to vote for incumbent Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

While the use of the photos is vile and despicable, the actual ad itself makes a valid point. Black voters in this country have been loyal, for the most part, to the Democratic party and for that devotion they've gotten in return a dependency on welfare, high unemployment and a disproportionate number of black men locked up in prison. It doesn't seem the DNC is working out too well for them. Had this PAC not been retarded and used the images that wouldn't have been lost.

I know I'll lose some respect points from some of my readers for saying this, but I'm flipping out that France has made it to the finals. They were one of four teams I chose to make it. U.S., England, Australia & France. The U.S. went out first then England and Australia. Then France dominated Spain and owned the best team in the world, Brazil. If you saw that game then you saw something amazing. Brazil got their asses handed to them. That doesn't happen very often. So come Sunday, it's Italy vs. France for the World Cup. This time it failed, but next time...
North Korea launched a long-range Taepodong-2 missile and two small Scud-type missiles within a two-hour period, but the long-range missile appears to have failed, a diplomatic source told Reuters on Tuesday.
But they have as much right to fire their missiles as Iran does to seek "peaceful" nuclear power. Right? I mean, it's not like Kim Jong Il would ever put one of their nuclear weapons on one of those missiles. That's dumb.

Once a terrorist group, always a terrorist group. This situation is about to reach a new level. But who didn't see something like this happening when Hamas was elected to power?

Worst...President...Ever

And this, Mr. Carter, is why you're an idiot who only served one term. Mr. Peanut wants the government to be an open book. That we should know everything they're doing. What a dumbass. Could you imagine this man running the country in today's world? Scares the shit out of me.

Also, that poll he talks about? It was conducted by a group called Sunshine Week. An organization who's mission it is to make the government on open book about everything. I wonder how "fair and balanced" the poll is?

The New Look

I felt it was time to go back to a basic look. Simple, and maybe a little boring, but the content is more important than the looks. Although I might go to blue in a week or so. The green kind of hurts my eyes. I don't know.

Supreme Court, al-Qaeda, Geneva, Oh My

The Supreme Court, with their recent ruling, has essentially given the terrorist group al-Qaeda protection under the Geneva Convention. They don't have to follow it, but they're protected by it. Question: Is This A Good Idea?

My personal view is that it's a little of both a good idea and bad. Bad because of what I said above. They my be protected by it but they don't have to follow it. They can capture an American soldier, shoot him, beat him and decapitate him because they don't have to follow the same rules. Doesn't sound too fair to me, but it's the law. But, there is some good in it as well. Convention III - Section II - Article 118 of the Geneva Convention states
Prisoners of war shall be released and repatriated without delay after the cessation of active hostilities
Which means that the people being held at Gitmo can be held indefinitely because, as some have stated on this blog, there is no end to this War On Terror. I don't think al-Qaeda will be surrendering any time soon and unless we get a spineless jellyfish like Kerry in office in '08, I don't think the U.S. will either.
