The Nobel Peace Prize? Really?

Are you fucking serious? What the hell has he done to deserve this? Actually, it's kind of fitting. They gave one to Jimmy Carter and Yasser Arafat, why not Obama.

There will be an outcry from those on the right who will say that Obama's nomination, made two weeks into his Presidency, is impossible to justify but I think such an outcry will sound like right-wing whining. The better response is simply to allow those on the left to explain what he did in his first two weeks as President that merited such recognition.

Wednesday Hero

Sgt. Michael Egan

News of Egan’s death came to Pennsauken shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday, Krista Egan, Sgt. Egan's sister-in-law, said. His mother, Irene, was on the telephone when an Army sergeant walked up to the door. "My mother-in-law was talking on the telephone to Mike’s wife, Maria, when he came. Maria had just got the news. The Army sergeant told my mother-in-law it was his first time notifying a family."

Sgt. Egan served in the Marine Corps for eight years, was a civilian for a year, then joined the National Guard. As a Marine, he had been previously served in Afghanistan.

"He was well-liked by everyone," Patrick Egan, Sgt. Egan's brother, said.

Sgt. Michael Egan was killed when an IED detonated near his vehicle while on patrol in Ramadi. Also killed in the attack were Spc. William Evans, 22, of Hallstead, PA, Spc. William Fernandez, 37, of Reading, PA and Lt. Mark Dooley of the Vermont National Guard.

On July of next year, Robert Rodriguez's prequel to one of the most bad ass movies off all time, Predator, will hit theaters. It will be called Predators and here are some of the details on the characters.

Cuchillo — A Mexican enforcer from a drug cartel with uzis strapped to his back. [character will be played by Danny Trejo]
Nikolai — A frightening bear of a Russian armed with a four-barreled gas-powered rotary machine gun.
Isabelle — A French "tough as nails woman armed with a sniper rifle".
Stans — A prisoner from San Quentin with a shaved head and a scorpion tattoo on his neck and armed with a prison made knife.
Mombasa — An African member of the Sierra Leon death squad.
Hanzo — A bad-ass Japanese Yakuza enforcer.
Edwin — A small unassuming man…formerly one of the FBI’s most-wanted.

You got the Mexican drug runner the French sniper the African, Russian, Japanese and two Americans. Is it me, or does this movie sound like a bad stereotypical United Nations?

CFL Bulbs Are A Trap

So, you're walking through Wal-Mart, or some other store because Wal-Mart is an evil corporation that exploits it's workers by not giving them health care, and you see a 3-pack of CFL bulbs for around $15. You think, "Wow, that's expensive." But then you see the benefits on the package. They're good for the environment. Well, no one want's be be compared to a Holocaust denier. Then you see they last between 5-7 years. You won't have to buy more for a LONG time. Then you read that they lower your energy bill. Hey, who can't afford to save some money? Right? So you grab them feeling pretty good about yourself. In fact, you get quite a few to fill up our entire house. Think of the savings. You exchange all your old non-green filament bulbs and the new CFL bulbs are better. Much brighter and things look clearer. Awesome. Cut to 2, not 5 or 7, years later and you've already had two bulbs go out. You have to travel almost 30 miles to Home Depot because it's the only place near you that you can take those green CFL bulbs to be recycled because you can't just throw them away for the chemicals in them. You also haven't seen even a penny in savings on your energy bill. And you're wondering where the benefits are. But of course you'll go buy another one for $7 because, like I said, they do make everything brighter and clearer and you've come to like that.

H1N1 Vaccine

Will you or your children be taking the H1N1 vaccine when it become available? I doubt I will. I haven't had a flu shot in years and I've only had the flu, maybe, twice in my life. I know the media and the government have tried to scare the crap out of us, and it's work to some extent on me, but I just don't feel all that threatened by it. Plus, you know there's going to be a shortage so I'll just save mine for someone who might need it. Also, do we really know what all the side effects may be? They tell us it's safe, but you'll have to forgive me if I have questions.
